I would go 79 to 60 then into Superior. The roads are alright in the mountains (for the most part the snow melted today on the road and many south facing slopes), but why tow the Monty thru the mountains? 60 goes right past us a few miles west of Superior.

As long as you pick your weather window the road conditions should be fine.
I did that road several years ago in the opposite direction and mostly it was ok but at the northern end - near superior I had a short (mile or two if I remember correctly) 10% downgrade so you would have the upgrade. I also had an upgrade in that vicinity but don't recall the grade... fairly steep - you'd have the downgrade. That stretch was scenic but the rest of it was nothing special.
Hope this helps.
Currently in Tucson ourselves.. Catalina State Park.

Carol, we came in that way (Globe to Superior) from Deming. It may be scenic but whomever is driving won't know it. There are a couple of sharp upgrades and downgrades with truck passing lanes and cut outs. It is a major truck route and even I had to pass a truck that could barely make it up one of the downgrades. We take the road in the car to hike etc, but I'd avoid it in the Monty if I had another option.

We spent the last two winters at Desert Gardens on Rt. 79 and would second DQDick's suggestion of 79 to 60.
