West Yellowstone, MT to St. Mary, MT

Leaving West Yellowstone and going to see Glacier NP and staying in St. Mary, MT. Would like any recommendations on which roads to take. Have looked at traveling north on US 287 then West on I90 to North on I15. Then three possible routes (1)US 287 at exit 228 or (2)US 89 at exit 290 or (3) stay on I15 until exit 348 then take 44 over to 89. Another choice could be to stay on US 287 to US 89 and stay off the Interstates. Your thoughts will be appreciated. Garry

We've taken just about all those roads at one time or another. If you're in a hurry then take the freeways otherwise take the byways. We prefer the byways! Take your time and enjoy some of the byways. Enjoy. Dennis

I've been on these roads a lot. My favorite would be 287 up to 89. It's good road and will give you lots to see. Have a good one.

Thanks Dennis and JP, We are in no hurry, and will enjoy seeing the countryside on 287 and 89. The only date we need to make is a wedding in Alabama on 21 July. We will also mix in a bit of I15 north of Helena.
