Connecticut to Florida

Hi all. The family and I are traveling to Disney and I am trying to find an easier way out of Connecticut than my usual (I84-I81-I70-I270-I495-I95). I limit myself because the tolls north of Washington on I95 are horrendous. My question is this...is RT15 a decent road to travel? We have always gone out to Hagerstown and than back in towards Washington. I see I can pick up Rt15 in Harrisburg and connect to I70/I270 in Frederick. I just don't want to be sitting at traffic lights along RT15 if the roadway is anything like our Routes in Connecticut. Any ideas appreciated.

Daniel,
I recommend I84 to I81 (Scranton) to I83 to 581(Harrisburg) to Rt 15(Camp Hill) to Rt 15/I340 (Fredrick) to Rt 15 to Rt 17 (South Warrenton) to I95 Fredericksburg, VA.

As you know the I84/I81 saves the MD tolls and the Rt 15/Rt 17 save the DC hassle.

The Rt 15/Rt 17 does have a 10 mile stretch of 45 mph but not bad road and other MOC'ers have used it with no complaint. This route has nice scenery and nice view crossing the Potomac at Point of Rocks.

Safe travels.

Semper Fi,

I would just stay on RT81 to RT77 to RT26 to RT95. This is the way I run to Florida. Lots of Flying J and campgrounds on route.

We have just returned from a 5000 mile trip which took us from East Texas to Maine, then back to Savannah.

On our way back we stopped for a couple of days in Intercourse, PA. I deliberately drove west to Gettysburg then took US 15 South to I-66 for a short distance to connect with 234 Bypass around Washington, DC then picked up I-95. I found no problems and personally prefer a route like this to driving through Baltimore and DC. I'm sure others may have a different preference. We made good time.

The traffic on I-95 south of Washington was the heaviest we encountered on the entire trip, but it moved along nicely [and for the most part past me as I stayed in the right hand lane at 61 mph].

As I live in CT as well and travel to Fla ever year I will offer my routes. I-84W to I-81S, then depending upon where we decide to stay I take I-66 (just below Winchester, VA and sometimes stay overnight at the Winchester Best Western as they will take pets) to I-95 or we stay on I-81 and then connect (another interstate route) onto I-26 to I-95 to I-4. Bypasses Eastern VA traffic (Richmond included for that area can be bad for accidents). Hapy travels.

Thanks all. I may try RT15. We'll have to see what the traffic flow is like as we get closer to DC.
