Choices
Hi all,
New member here. In our purchase we have a choice of a residential fridge or the new 4 door RV elec./LP fridge.
The 4 door fridge rig is a 16 legacy and the resi fridge one is a 15 non-legacy.. Virtually same money one is a little farther away.
Any input?
Thanks in advance
Mark

Mark,
Welcome to the MOC. We recently installed a new Samsung RF18HFENBBC in our rig when the Dometic 1350 crapped out after 1 1/2 years. Honestly it is one of the best upgrades we did in the coach and would not look back.
If you do get the residential make sure the dealer puts 2 batteries in and I would go a step further and make them install 2 - 6 volt Deep cycle AGM or flooded batteries so you have enough amp storage on board while you are between destinations and off shore power.
Good luck on your purchase!
Les

Thanks for the input, the Legacy one has 4 6v batteries in it. Looks like I'll be going that way. I'm a cabinet maker so if it gives me any trouble it'll get fixed.

That's a no brainer...residential for sure. Four 6V batteries and a good inverter/charger and you'll be good to go.

We're recreational campers not long or full timers. The old standby RV gas/electric fridge suits us well. The other half doesn't care for stainless which most all residential fridges come in plus we don't need mega refrigeration capacity. Gas/electric have been around for years and years and work as designed if you treat them right. I added an ARP control (with fan control) to mine after I installed a couple on campground acquaintances ... it does it's job and lets you drop a number on the cooling control.

Great choice for the res. frig. In Aug we bought 3611 with res. fridg. and then took off on 4500+ mile trip and traveled 300-400 miles on most travel days and had no problem with inverter keeping up and maintaining our settings on fridge. We have 2 12v batteries that came with rig. One thing about this fridge, it will absolutely freeze ice cream as hard as a rock! Our traveling partners also bought their Monty just a few weeks before we did with RV fridge and their ice cream is pretty soft. They are not happy and are dealing with dealer now about resolving this issue. Maybe not an issue if you like real soft ice cream. Anyway , we are very satisfied with our selection and I feel you will be too. BTW, welcome to the MOC. Great group here. I mainly just sit back and read all these comments and try to learn something. Very knowledgeable group here.

Same with our 3611 and residential fridge with 2 12 volt batteries, 9+ hours to Florida and back, and no problems. Remember, you're truck will be charging as you travel down the road. We don't plan to stay anywhere without electricity, so a good choice for us.

Wow 4 - 6 volt batteries.....what is this world coming too? Can we say it is about time our rigs come properly equipped!
Think the choice is obvious now!
Good luck!

Same for me once I knew about the batteries. Never heard of a Montana properly equipped on the battery side.
