Trailer Brake Lights

Does anyone know if your trailer brake can be wired so that if you pull it in an emergency, your brake lights will go on without engaging the truck brake pedal? After a recent incident, my wife could not reach brake pedal or the flashers, she grabbed steering wheel and slowed RV down w/the manual trailer brake, but we found out later that the brake lights do not come on. Can this be modified? Thanks for any info.
