Ski Crested Butte
We will be leaving tomorrow (in the auto, not the Montana) on the way to Colorado. Probably spend a couple of nights in motels on the road, a night or two with our daughter in Buena Vista, Colorado, then on over Monarch Pass to Gunnison and up to Crested Butte. This will be my third year to ride the lifts "free": available only to those who are still skiing past their 70th birthday. "Free" in quotation marks because you actually get an annual 'Gold Pass' for one small fee. The first year it was actually free, but they say this was necessary to cover cost of documents, photo ID, etc.
Anyway, CountryGirl and I will be away for almost two weeks so we will try to catch up with the forum when we get back.
BTW, evidently we are the only MOCers who are going on the RV cruise out of Galveston on April 2. At least no one responded to my earlier query. As my Australian friend says when we talk on Yahoo vocal chat: "TTFN".

Padredw -
Enjoy your trip. Terrie and I both have sisters up in the Fort Collins area and Terrie's folks like in Pueblo, so we get down in that area frequently. Hope you don't run into bad weather. Enjoy the slopes.

Hope that you enjoy your ski time! Crested Butte is great. Pat's Dad enjoyed his free ski there back in the 90's when we lived in CO. For a while he was ranked #14 for the 0ver 70's. Now he is enjoying his free ski in VT. At age 87 he has had two hip replacements and is still going strong--skiis at least once a week! His only concession to age has been to add a helmet because it makes his kids feel better.

We left after church this afternoon. Drove an easy 300 miles. Past Wichita Falls to Vernon, Texas. Found we have high speed hard wired (free access) in our motel room. Enjoying keeping up with the forum, so thought I'd give an update. We will drive on to somewhere in Colorado tomrrow--to Trinidad at least.

Enjoy your trip! Crested Butte REALLY got dumped on in the past week - 3-4 feet or more of the white stuff!

Just a quick update. We are in Pueble, CO tonight. This is NOT our usual route to Buena Vista (We go through Westcliffe), but we decided to come here and spend the night in a motel. Will have an easy drive on into BV tomorrow. Our daughter has an ISP business there:
http://www.rockymountains.net
That is where and why we have our own domain and home page.

We are going on an RV Cruise May 7 out of Seattle to Alaska. My daughter is a cruise travel agent and couldn't beat the price we got with the RV Cruise deal.

I lived near Colorado Springs courtesy of Uncle Sam for a year and a half.
As much as I hate old man winter, If the right job came up I would go there.
Absolutely beautiful!!!
At some point I am going to plan a RV trip there.
Have a great time

UPDATE: After five great days of skiing at Crested Butte and two days on the road, we arrived back here in our country home around 2:00 this afternoon (Wednesday). We left Gunnison at 0 degrees and arrived here with 77 degrees temperature. Beautiful weather every day on the slopes, roads clear all the way. Who could ask for more! Now, just a good night's sleep is all I ask.

Since I started this whole thing about the ski trip, I will report that we are back home safe and sound. I skied 5 full days with our daughter, Margaret. Mom did not ski this time. We had clear, dry roads all the way, to and from. Crested Butte was beautiful. They had very heavy snowfall just a few days before our arrival, but not a cloud in the sky while we were there. No crowds at all; no waiting in the lift line. Looks like I may qualify for my fourth year as a 70+ skier. I have posted a few of our photos on our home page:
http://www.dwilliamson.com/ or you can just go directly to the "ski page" at: http://dwilliamson.com/ski05/Ski05.html

Thanks, Steve, and remember that you can always park your Montana in our back yard (we have 25 acres) and sit on the porch for conversation or contemplation. Best time, of course, is Spring or Fall. Just call to be sure we are not 'on the road again.'

Glad you had a good time. You could have stopped and said "hi" to Terrie's folks in Pueblo. We will eventually "retire" to Colorado. We have land up north by Red Feather Lakes. This is a euphamism for "home base" when we're not out traveling. Terrie has been away from her family since she was a little girl growing up in Colorado. She will be two lots away from her sister. They also like to RV travel and intend to go 5er in a few years. Hopefully, Montana. Welcome home from your trip.
