Ford F 350 2010 OEM brake controler

My sister has a ford 350 with the factory installed trailer brake controller, they have been getting a code on their panel that reads " Fault Connection " does anybody know what this could be. or what might it be the cause.

Have they checked the owner's manual?

In other words something in the circuit from the trailer to the plug in on the tow vehicle is not working...all the time as it is supposed to be doing...and may the force be with you in finding out what is going on...unless it is truly dead and easy to find. John

I don't know I didn't ask them, but I'm sure they did, I thought I would pop the question out here, and do a little leg work for them, It don't look too good here, as replies go. I was hoping that a member that had that problem would post there fix.

The new controllers are very smart. That message tells you there is a short in the trailer brake circuit. It doesn't tell you where it is and that can be a challenge. Earlier Fords (2008 - 2010?) had a TSB about water intrusion into the 7 pin plug which caused the message. Hopefully newer models have the sealed connection where the wires enter. Most commonly the error is in the trailer brake system. One of the connections has come loose, the insulation has been worn off a wire (sometimes inside the axle where it runs), or crossthread's observation that the right (passenger side) rear brake has a tendency to cut the wire inside the drum. Use the standard diagnostic approachs to find the problem. Hopefully it is something simple such as cut wire which fails constantly. You didn't say if this was a constant message or an intermittent one. The intermittent ones are the tough ones to solve.

I had an intermittent message on my 2008 which I finally solved. I traded for a 2011.

Thanks Carl I will forward that information to them.
Larry my B.I.L. was also planning to change out the 7 pin plug to the trailer. Plus I also have the plug adapter called "The Trailer Emulator" that simulates a trailer connected to the truck without having the trailer connected, which will allow the error message to be transmitted to the dash read-out if he has a bad plug on the truck. we will also see if he has all the connectors working properly.
It's a start anyway I'll let you know what the outcome is when I see him Sunday. have a good week what's left of it anyway.
I guess that's one way to solve a problem trade up. I wish I had your money to do that. LOL

Try cleaning the 7 pin plug from the trailer and the connection on the truck. Sometimes they get some corrosion on them and it prevents a good connection. That's where I would start. Also make sure that the plugs is pushed in all the way.
