oil change intervals diesel
How often? I change every 5000 mi. My 2005 Dodge CTD has 82000 mi. I avg towing only 2000 mi per year. The rest is daily driving. Dodge service manual uses the same rec. for diesel as well as gas engines. Section A is 7500 mi, Sec B is every 3750. I split the difference. What do you do?

Change the oil and filter as well as rotate tires every year even though it far exceeds recommended interval. 2007 Classic with 33,000 miles to date, hope I get the truck broke in one of these years!!

I change mine every 3000 mi. Probably overkill, but,,, with the newer diesels having a dpf and egr, I think there's more potential for dirty and fuel diluted oil (I'm no expert. This is just what I've been reading). I change the oil and filter (also the fuel filter every other oil change) myself. I get the filters from genosgarage.com. I only have 19000 mi on mine. I also had the differential fluids changed at 15000 mi.. Tranny and transfer case will be changed before we head south for the winter. I use all synthetics except for the engine oil (Valvoline Premium Blue).

Manual says 7,500 for normal driving, 5,000 for hard driving. I change mine at 5,000 even though only small part of that is towing.

Ditto every 5000. The manual says that for heavy hauling and so did my dealer. Just over 36K now, and so far so good. BZought the ESP just to be safe!

I am using synthetic oil in my 2004 Dodege and I change it every 5000 miles even though the literature says I can go longer. My mechanic agrees with me that it is a good interval when towing something heavy like the Monty. I feel like it's cheap insurance.

I change mine in the fall and in the spring using Rotella synthetic. Our school corp. changes the International and Cummins diesels oil every 5k.

The recommendation from Ford on our truck is 10k for "normal" driving conditions and 5k for "towing" conditions.

I change mine every 3000-5000 depending on my towing. I have a 1997 diesel truck. I look at it as for longevity of the engine. I am 202,000 miles and hope to get more.

2000 F250 SuperDuty Ford, 7.3L Powerstroke engine, 126,000 miles. I change the oil every 5,000 miles, but I don't think it's critical. after all, there's 4 gallons in there!

I was changing annually using Rotella T Synthetic and having it analyzed by Blackstone Labs (usually around 8-10K miles per year). The Lab report always indicates the oil was still/should be good for another several K miles.
But in the last year, I've only driven 7K miles so I contacted Blackstone, and they suggested I wait until 10K miles or more - which will likely be 1.5 years at this rate.
I suppose this accommodates my environmental sympathies...
