Think the TV can pull this??
Saw this rig parked on the street in Tusayan, Az. just outside of the Grand Canyon. The fiver was actually hooked to the tractor. Couldn't resist taking a photo. Wonder if he has trouble pulling the fiver in the mountains?

Over on the escapee forum that would be the proper truck for the job as it would stop it better than a one ton.

Saw one of these yesterday, for the first time.
It's a 19 foot fifth wheel weighing in at a grotesque 2000 lbs. Check out the link. Amazing!

Unless he's hauling moonshine in that fifth wheel, I'd say overkill!!!

You could build a dolly with 5th wheel to go behind Monty and store your gear in it.

I think with a V-6 engine installed in my 1957 Nash Metropolitan, I could tow the 13 ft trailer. They are nearly the same length-wise..

A few comments on the HDT (heavy duty truck) as a tow vehicle:
-It's comfortable
-It's quiet
-It's got good visibility
-It's bigger than most any trailer and doesn't get pushed around
-It goes up any hill faster than any other TV
-It comes down any hill more safely than any other TV
-If it fits, the trailer will fit
-Other drivers see you (but still do stupid things)
-It gets mileage as good as, or better than, almost any other TV (although the newer pickups may get a little better)
-It's safe
-Maintenance is available almost anywhere and remarkably inexpensive
-Insurance is not prohibitive
-While many people envy your TV, they tend to ask stupid questions about whether it's big enough
-Tires aren't much more expensive than what's on your current TV
-If your DW kicks you out of the trailer, there's a place to sleep
-You get to park with the big boys, and they won't make fun of you
-It'll cost you a lot less than that new 350/450/550 (off a 3 year lease that is common in the industry)
-You might get a nosebleed climbing into the cab, and an elevator would be a nice addition
-It's not your average daily driver
-You tend to spend more money on tricking it out
-You might have to mortgage your house to fill up the tanks (150 to 300 gallons) but you get to shop around for the best price
-It's not for the faint of heart, but there are a lot of people driving these things, and not just truckers
-You attract more attention of the local and state troopers, but they usually want to talk about it (truck envy)
-Your DW will probably not take to it immediately, but watch out, it won't take long, and with the the autoshift transmissions, she may decide she'll want to sit in the left seat
I've had mine for 9 years, and it will last longer than I will.
Bob

Bob,
Excellent post regarding a "Big Rig" as a TV for our Montys. I wish I had researched the Big Rigs before we went with a 450. We would have had a much stronger vehicle to tow the Monty and still have some $$$$$ left over. I did not realize just how reasonable the used Big Rigs are. I've been working on the DW since I first was introduced to the Big Rigs back a few years. Bob brought his Big Red to the Rally in Carson City, NV and it was luv at first sight! Oh, well I'll keep working on it! But got to hurry since there aren't that many years left in this old carcass of mine!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts regarding the Big Rigs. Wish you were here and hope you get all your medical situations under control. See you next time. Dennis

A Monty would not be dwarfed like that rig by the TV
