Gotta new Favorite BBQ joint

While exploring the Hill Country of Texas, we stopped in Llana. There we went to Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que. I don't have to look any further. This is it!!! I ordered four pork ribs and only had room for three. They were large, meaty and tasty. The sauce is tangy and delicious. Carol ordered the Big Chop, a large pork chop that seemed to be the size of a thick steak. The beans had just the right mixture of spices and were fresh and good. The cole slaw was fresh. We took our meals and drove east of town looking for a place to eat them. About 8 miles east of Llano is a large eagle nest not far from the road. This was an ideal lunch place. We saw three heads over the top of the nest. Ended the journey with a stop in Luckenbach. Now I have Waylon's song running through my head! We will surely return to Cooper's whenever we return to this part of the world.

Nice experience, isn't the Hill country beautiful?
Try the Salt Lick in Driftwood, Colleen (Driftwood Gal)was a waitress there when it opened.

I heard you were camped around Bandera, have you tried Busby's for b-b-q or the Old Spanish Trail cafe for breakfast ? Both there on the main drag in pretty downtown Bandera.

You got it, Ron. It is an experience and, if the eagles are still nesting there, it is a great place to eat the tremendous Cooper's Q.
Ozz, this really is beautiful country. Looks like Driftwood is set aside for next trip.
Ole Dude, we tried Busby's the day before and will have to try the Old Spanish Trail soon, thanks.
From here we head west, probably along 90 instead of I-10 so if anyone has suggestions for some good BBQ, I am "all ears!" - Jim

I've got one for you in Keystone Heights, Florida, on FL hiway 21, south of Jacksonville. It's called Johnnies, and is one of the best we have seen in a while. Only problem is no parking anywhere close for a rig. However, if any of you happen to ry Gold Head Branch State Park, it's right down the road!

Thanks, Jim and Carol. We put Cooper's on our list. It's not that far from the rally in Kerrville! Maybe we'll see you two in that area sometime and we'll take you to Blue Bonnet Cafe in Marble Falls one day and you can take us to Cooper's another day! Have fun on your trip on into Arizona! And an ear rub to Sunny.

I knbow about good Bar-B-Que and Coopers. We are the type that will drive forever for GOOD Barbque and having lived in Florida I think the wife and I both agree that what they sell as barbque in FL you couldn't give aweay elsewhere. If there is a good place we will be thrilled to quit driving 900 miles for a good meal.

Jim, I couldn't agree with you more about driving forever for good BBQ. Cooper's in Llano is a drive from anywhere because it seems out in the middle of nowhere but my belly is still satisfied from that trip! We will be heading Tucson way next week so if anyone knows of some good "Q" between San Antonio and Tucson, please let us know. We will be traveling US-90 so should find something along there.

Jim, I have no idea where to suggest to you but might I suggest you google the Food Channel and check out what they say. I think they have a list of their featured "diners, driveins, and dives" and maybe have something specific to bbq.

Recently someone posted a link on this forum to a site with tons of poi files for your gps. One I downloaded is the list of diners, driveins and dives. Now when we get to a location I just bring up that custom poi file on my gps and it shows me what's available and how far, listing the closest first. In fact, after loading this file to my gps I discovered one of those places and last night we drove the 25 miles and had dinner at T-Bone Tom's Steakhouse in Kemah, TX. They list BBQ as well as steaks but we didn't try the bbq.

If you want to try it, email me and I'll email you the file to load to your gps.

Thanks, all, for your additions. Anyone have good BBQ along US90, Bracketville, Del Rio, Marathon, etc? That will be our route starting tomorrow on up to St David, AZ.
