How many miles per hour do you average?

Reading the thread on miles per day, I was wondering, if anyone has figured out how many miles per hour distance do you average? Start time, when you leave in the AM and stop time when you arrive. Figuring in fuel, food and potty stops. So, total miles and total time, what is the result??

We pretty much drive whatever the speed limit is. I have no clue on what the average MPH is between the time it takes and how fast we’re going but I’m sure it would be considerably less. We always make several stops.

We try to keep the speed at 60 to 62, slower if speed limits dictate. With pit stops, we average about 50 MPH.

When towing I use the 40 mph rule for travel. For 300 miles that is 7.5 hours. This is based on my 300 mile trip to NY towing.

As you mentioned slower starting, slower stopping, fuel, food, potty.

We average right around 50 mph. We travel at speeds of 55-58 mph which allows us to remain behind most traffic and allows us room to maneuver when we have to. Making rest stops is very important for me since the back surgery I had two years ago. I find it necessary to get out and walk around more than I used to have to do. Regardless, we still average 50 mph.

Sounds like we are in line with the others. Travelling with a covered wagon full of women with excessive amounts of pit stops that can never be avoided nor planned for, we seem to average around 50-55 mph on our trips.

I guess I'm going to be the exception. With my truck I don't have to stop for fuel when traveling so this saves a lot of time and since we are still working and want to make the most out of our limited vacation time we tend to rack up the miles getting from A-B. I don't travel fast, 60-65 MPH is top speed on the interstate and if we stay on the interstate we can average 55-60 miles per hour per day and travel anywhere from 400-500 miles.

I'm sure looking forward to the days we can travel the state roads and actually "see" this great land of ours.

While traveling on long trips we usually get started around 8:30 to 9:00 AM and stop around 3:00 PM. I do all the driving and will keep it between 55 and 58. It seems like the Nuvi always says that we average 50 mph.

Our average is also around 50MPH on freeways, including stops every 2 hours or so. I usually drive the speed limit if it's 60 or under We are both retired but not full timers (usually 3-5 months a year or more on the road) and in no hurry to get anywhere and drive 250-300 miles a day, sometimes a lot less if we like an area. We seldom have a set plan other than a final destination except for a couple of Caravans we signed up for.
This is our first year snowbirding as our travels have been mid spring to mid fall in the past.

We too always seem to avg 50 MPH no matter what speed we travel. When you add in the fuel, potty and eating stops it always comes out to 50 MPH. So that's what we use to figure out our daily travel mileage we want to do.

Interesting

50 MPH travel distance - - -

That is EXACTLY what we figure. Expressway, or back roads, towing Tana, or solo in truck, car, whatever,

we have kept an informal type average for all the 40 plus years we have been married, and we seem to average, 50 miles per hour distance traveled no matter if we drive 75 or 45.

I have yet to figure out how that happens, but, we are never off of that 50 by much.

Does not change if we have 2 drivers or one.

600 miles is 12 hours driving. Solo, a few years ago, I came withing 15 minutes of this. I was driving a F 150, towing nadda. The trip home, came close, towing a small uhaul.

Never fails to amaze me.

We usually travel at 62-64 mph as that seems to be the sweet spot for our tv & 5er combo. The end result is in the 55 miles per hour per day. With our add on fuel tank we don't stop for fuel during travel.

We average about 50 miles per hour also. I think it might be a little better if we were driving a car instead of towing. When you figure in all the stops, weather conditions, if there is a traffic tie-up somewhere along the route, you can't expect much more than that. We keep our speed at no more than 65 and usually under that. We don't like to drive more than 5 to 6 hours a day and prefer to drive less than that. We usually decide when we start out where we might like to stop based on what time we might get there.

Towing we run 62/65 mph. Average per day is another story. We stop a lot and at times might average 40MPH. It makes no difference..There is no hurry.

I try and do 60 mph on the Interstate which usually averages out about 50 to 55 mph depending on how many city areas you have to go through and driving with the DW we stop more often. Not being retired I like to get where we are going as time is limited.

50 for us too. We do not stop for long time because we only go about 200 per day so our stops are short.

I TRY to keep my ram at 62 mph it seems to pull real good at that speed, sorta the sweet spot in the rpm range. pluss it does not attract attention to the CHP as a speeder.

I always calculate our destination based on a 60mph average, usually we arrive a few minutes before that guess. That takes into consideration stops for fuel, walk the dog, eat, etc. Has worked for us these past years. Runnin empty I use a 65 mph rule, same stops. We normally run the just below the 70mph speed limit.
