Holiday Idea Worth Doing

If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful special people who have sacrificed so much would get.

A Great Idea!!!

When you are making out your Holiday card list this year, please include the following:

c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue,NW
Washington,D.C. 20307-5001

If you like this idea, please pass it on to your e-mail list.

This is a fantastic idea but I would like to add one thing.

Don't only use the Walter Reed address but look in your local area for any VA Hospital and send your cards and letters there. Most VA Hospitals have local Vets from your local area who would love to get cards and letters from the locals.
Same heading..

Thanks Glenn, That is a good addition to a great idea (which is not orginally mine-I just passed it on).

I also posted this on the Open Roads Forum and will take your suggestion there too along with the VA hospital locator.

While this an a warm and outstanding idea, please note that Walter Reed is not accepting posts addressed this way. Paste this link into your web browser to view their announcement regarding Christmas cards:

Thanks Allan and Nita for a great idea! I guess 911 really put the nix to a lot of good things. Isn't it a shame that we live in a world that has changed so much in just a few years. We now have to look over our shoulders all the time. It seems like such a nice jesture to send these cards, but apparently they have found it very necessary to protect our recovering soldiers from harm. You would think cards would be harmless, but then we did have some scares with anthrax in letters. Maybe, if there was a way to get the names of local soldiers from your own area, it would be good to send cards addressed to them specifically as Glenn has suggested.

I knew that mail or packages could not be sent to generic groups or individuals in Iraq from the time our son was there but I had no idea the same would apply to state side GI's.

How about they set up a web site where we can all send our Christmas etc. messages. We have a Write to the Troops message board for the Canadian Forces so it isn't a new idea. They can screen messages for the loony tune types and then let the guys/gals have access on line, print them or even project them on a screen in the lounges or whatever. I have several people I know who have gone overseas, all have returned physically safe although one is suffering some emotional challenges. The MOC could send a joint message with our names and locations and then challenge the other forums we frequent to do the same thing. One of my friends who has had three trips to Afghanistan told me that knowing the public supported them (not to be confused with supporting the mission) was really important especially when we have a media that accentuates the negative news. Just a thought.

This link is not in vain. I mentioned this idea to our Elks Lodge, The Exalted Ruler changed it slightly in that he is asking for any extra christmass cards be brought to the Elks lodge by December 15 (here in Grants Pass OR) and he will sign them and have them delivered between the facilities in White City, OR and Roseburg, OR.
