Propane Tanks
I have been told that you can put 10 gal.(40 lbs) tanks in our 3400RL. Has anybody tried to do this and did they fit? I was told that they were about 8 inches taller that the 7 gal.(30 lbs) tanks. Any thoughts on the subject?

I am not sure how the propane compartments are on your 05, but my 04 3400RL there is no room for a taller propane tank. I guess the easiest way to see if they would fit is trial and error. Go to any of your local shops that sell propane and see which tank would fit into your coach.

I'm sitting on the patio enjoying blue skies, 73 degrees, and a light wind while I peruse the MOC. I'm about three feet from the propane locker so dug out my trusty tape measure. The opening to put the tank in the locker could handle just two inches more height than the 30 pounder. You could tilt it to get it into the locker but once inside there is just six inches of clearance above the 30 pounder. So, if a 40 is 8 inches taller, it is not going to work in our 2003 Montana. Sure wish it would.

Thanks Steve, I am going to try a 10 gal. the next time at the propane station that I normally fill up. They have a 10 gal. and I am sure they will help me with trying it. I, too, hope that it works. The 8 in. taller figure is an approximate difference. Thank you for letting me know how nice it is there ha, ha,ha. It is raining here in Idaho. Went to RV show in Boise this weekend and not I am ready for thr travel mode.
Just talked to the propane dealer and he told me that the 40 gal. is just short of 30 inches tall.
Again Steve thanks for the measurements.

A 40 lb tank is 5 3/4 inches taller than a 30 lb tank. I found these measurement in a RV parts catalog, I'm not sure if all tanks are a standard size? Yee-Ya

I found out today that a 40# tank will fit in the Monty - barely. It will have a two inch? clearance. You will need to jocky it into the space. A friend of ours just brought home a new o6 Monty 2855. He had 40# tanks in his old 5er and he asked if they would trade tanks and they agreed and they (the tanks)are now in his new Monty. We will be working on him to join the MOC. He does not like using the computer.
