05 Ford F350 with tow Boss package

Has anyone tried the new Tow Boss package on the 05 F350 I just got mine and the sticker said tow boss package 4/30 rear limited slip axle. Itis said to have a tow rating of 17000 lb it has a 15000 tow rating on the reciever hitch have not towed with it yet trying to get the first 500 miles on it before towing I will be towing a 3685FL and it had a gvwr over what my other truck had

Waiting for my F-350 and have the tow boss package, it was rated at 21000 lbs. maybe because of the DRW?

I just got mine and the only paper that i coulc find on it was the window sticker it is the DRW 4X4soit may be rated higher than the 17000

You guys with the tow boss package pretty much got the highest ratings in any one-ton truck, bar none. GCWR with that package is a whopping 26,000 lbs.

Tow rating depends on whether it's 4x4, 4x2, std cab, supercab, etc.. Here's what the tow rating guide says.

This is just for those with the Tow Boss package. First number is for 4x2, second is for 4x4, third is conventional towing (travel trailer). Each has GCWR = 26,000. All are for the PSD diesel. The Tow Boss package includes the 4.30 rear axle.

F350 Reg Cab DRW - 19,200/18,700/15,000

F350 Supercab DRW - 18,800/18,400/15,000

F350 Crew Cab DRW - 18,700/18,300/15,000

Nowhere do I see a mention in the ratings of the Tow Boss package other than with the diesel. The V10 apparently does not have that option. The only 17,000 lb rating (exactly 17,000) that I see is for the V10 F350 SRW Reg Cab.

Jack and Bill, you are going to love the way those trucks tow your Montanas. We sure do. We do not have the Tow Boss package, ours is an F250 4x4 FX4 SRW with GVWR of 10,000, GCWR of 23,000, FW tow rating of 15,400. We're closing in on 11,000 miles on the truck since delivery on October 25th.

Thanks steve that is what I was looking for the truck was on the dealers lot but he didnot provide any paperwork on the tow boss just said that it would tow a 17000lb load tanks

I am loving our new 05 Ford, we have the built in electric brake with the gain meter.
We are not towing now and driving mostly in town, DRW and getting just over 13 mpg. It's quieter than our 02 and has a great turn radius and I think is easier to drive. We did a short tow, 180 miles Round rip and got 12 mpg but I am not sure how much I trust that figure.

The v10 does not have the tow boss package However you can NOW get the 4:30 Diff on the V10 with drw. Gives it a tow rating of 16,100. Just ordered the F350Sd/crewcab.v10/drw. You can get the stats at www.ford.com

That V10 is strong, too. We had the V10 on our '99.

Steve/Kim I don't know how many miles are on yours but ours started out about where yours is and now gets 16-16.5 in town. We're just short of 11k miles. It should peak at something around 30k+ miles if it's like the '03 we had.

What kind of clearance do you have between the top of your truck bed and underside of the 5rwhen you are hooked up I only have 6 1/2 in and I may have to raise the hitch one more notch tahnks Jack

Jack, I believe it is either 8 or 9 inches. I'm sorry not to be certain on this. Since trading for this truck in late October, we've only towed it from Kansas City to Savannah, GA, about 1250 miles the route we took. During that time I raised the hitch one more notch, to the top of its travel. I measured at that time and believe it was 9 inches but may have been 8. We arrived here Jan 10 and don't leave again until Mar 10 so won't be able to doublecheck that right away. With the '03 F350 we had 7 1/2 inches but the hitch was one notch lower than now.

6 1/2 is "ok" but is a bit tight, in my opinion. Unless it puts you too far off level I'd recommend you go ahead and raise the hitch a notch. On mine that adds about an inch and a half. If you need to go further, the pinbox can be dropped a notch or two also. Just don't get too nose high or nose low.

When talking about mileage I think you have to take into consideration the difference in rear ends. 3.73 to 4.30 would make a difference I think. I have a 4.10 and another couple have a 3.73. Two years ago when we went to Kansas he got just a little better mileage than I did.

Thanks Steve that is what I thought about the 6 1/2 being too close where I live I have a small rise tha causes the rear of the bed to get very close to the trailer any place else that I have been has not caused it to get as close but I don'twant to break eather one of them I will be raising the hitch I have 2 more holes before iam at the top it ia a 20K Reese with side to side and front to rear tilt

I'm with you Jack. If 6 1/2 is all we could get then I'd live with it. Back in our early FW days we had that situation and it was not comfortable always worrying about whether this rise or this dip was going to be too much and now I can't back out because of traffic, etc. Even if it put us a little nose high on the Montana I'd go with having at least 7 1/2 inches or so. My opinion only, as always. I can be a wimp sometimes but just don't like to have to worry about things.

went to a camping fund raiser for make a wish a few years ago
there was a guy there that tow,s for a living and said hitch clearnce between over hang and bed rail should be 9inches.

I bought the new 05 F350 with the tow boss package two weeks ago and was wondering about the clearance to the bed. I have on order, an Access Lorado tonneau cover. It is a low profile unit but still sits up about 3/4" higher than the bedrail. I haven't purchased a hitch yet but will be buying the Reese 20K or 22K. Listening to several on here, I suppose I'll need to set the hitch one hole higher than I had on the old truck to attain a safe clearance. Hopefully it won't make that much difference on the level when towing.

Anyone else have a tonneau cover that sits above the bedrail? Any other clearance problems I should be aware of with the tonneau cover?

This is Jack jackw87 we will be pulling the same trailer the 4X4 sets a little higher than my 2003 F350 4X2 did I have not towed yet but I have raisaed the hitch one notch and I do not have a tonau cover I also have the Reese 20K hitch will be pulling it next week too much going on this week even without the cover I think you will be close did you have a 4X4 on your other truck

my orignal truck was a 2500 Dodge 360 gas not really enough power to tow our 2955 montana fom me anyway .we had a cover with the metal rails .we have a pretty steep driveway and it hit the over hang and sliced the over hang we had it raised up as ours had two more sets of holes to raise16 k husky it solved poblem and still rides level.I was told should be at least 9inches guy mike +jane harvey Bethlehem ct.
