Any aligators round here??

Any alligators round here??

While sports fishing off the Florida coast, a tourist capsized his boat. He could swim, but his fear of alligators kept him clinging to the overturned craft. Spotting Glenn and Lorraine standing on the shore, the tourist shouted, "Are there any gators around here?!"

"Naw," Glenn hollers back, "ain't had any around here for years!"

Feeling safe, the tourist started swimming leisurely toward the shore.

About halfway there he asks Glenn, "How'd you get rid of the gators?"

"We didn't do nothin'" Glenn answers

"The sharks got 'em."

Not you too Gruffy!
As I am forever telling these northerners down here, "Cold is what it is in northern New York and Canada"
Down here it just a bit chilly.
I'm looking at the temp bars in my signature...
In Hammond, NY it's -8F. Now that's cold.
In Seminole, FL it's 57F or just a tad on the chilly side

Gators, being cold blooded need a certain level of heat...just to be able to swim... too cold they drown... so... the gators are torpid right now.. not in hibernation exactly, but soaking up the rays waiting for warmer days....slower tourists...that sort of thing.....

hmmm, somebody forgot to tell this one, one of three Vicki photographed this past Saturday. Shortly after this picture, this one swam off. He sure didn't look too torpid to me, but then I'm not an alligator expert.

But I can relate to enjoying soaking up the rays..

The idea is they soak up the rays and try to raise the body temperature. If attacked they can power on for a time but as they cool they loose strength and must find shallow water to warm up again. Note I never said to jump on a resting alligator.....
