Drain Valve Lubricant

Hello All,

The front grey water valve (shower and bath sink) is getting rather stiff to operate. Not sure if it is the cable or the valve it's self. The Black and rear Grey operate very smoothly. ('14 3150RL) (2 cable operated valves in utility area.) (1 cable operated valve behind left rear wheel Kitchen Tank)

Looking for suggestions on either lubing the cable or valve.

Thanks Jim

Use a silicone spray or liquid as it is neutral (won't hurt any rubber, plastic or vinyl parts) and won't attract and trap dirt like oil or light grease will. Nor is it as messy.

No way to lubricate the cable run if that is the problem. Corrosion and crud builds up inside the cable sleeve.

The problem is the same as with (older) motorcycle and bicycle cables. Liquid graphite works well with them and should work well with these (I've never had this problem).

I have had the problem with both of my Montana's and now with the SOB. My problem is with the black tank only. I believe it is the valve that causes the problem. I am using Thetfords valve lubricant and it definitely works. After I dump and rinse the tanks I add a two or three gallons of water and pour in some of the lubricant.

Same here, had tight black valve, and the Thetford valve lube worked. Added 4 oz of the lube along with my normal tank treatment and some Calgon. After several cycles, the valve was back to operating easy.

Calgon works well. Also, you can take the wall down behind the Ser vice center, unbolt the cables, run lubricant down the housing around the shaft , it will free them up. "Break Free" gun lube works well.

We had a 2011 3400RL with the same problem and started spraying the tee handles with WD40 every time I dumped and the problem went away. I hope this helps.
