Beware pay pal scam

Be on the watch for the following when using paypal.

Dear XXXXXXX
We need your help resolving an issue with your PayPal account.

What's the problem?

Before we can offer you certain products and services, federal regulations
require that we collect specific information to verify your identity. This
information includes your name, address, date of birth, and National Tax ID
or Social Security Number. We haven't been able to verify your identity
using the information you provided, so we need some additional
documentation from you.

Until this issue is resolved, you'll be able to log in to your PayPal
account but you might not be able to add money to it or use some of your
account features.

How can you help?

It's usually pretty easy to take care of things like this. Most of the
time, we just need a little more information about your account or latest
transactions.

Please log in to your account and go to the Resolution Center to find out
what you need to do.

Case ID Number: PP-003-288-726-739

Sincerely,
PayPal

Dear Richard J. LaScola,Sr,
Thank you for being a proactive contributor by reporting
suspicious-looking emails to PayPal's Abuse Department. Our security
team is working to identify if the email you forwarded to us is a
malicious email.
Paypal Will Always:
- Address our customers by their first and last name or business name of
their PayPal account
Paypal Will Never:
- Send an email to: "Undisclosed Recipients" or more than one email
address
- Ask you to download a form or file to resolve an issue
- Ask in an email to verify an account using Personal Information such
as Name, Date of Birth, Driver's License, or Address
- Ask in an email to verify an account using Bank Account Information
such as Bank Name, Routing Number, or Bank Account PIN Number
- Ask in an email to verify an account using Credit Card Information
such as Credit Card Number or Type, Expiration Date, ATM PIN Number, or
CVV2 Security Code
- Ask for your full credit card number without displaying the type of
card and the last two digits
- Ask you for your full bank account number without displaying your bank
name, type of account (Checking/Savings) and the last two digits
- Ask you for your security question answers without displaying each
security question you created
- Ask you to ship an item, pay a shipping fee, send a Western Union
Money Transfer, or provide a tracking number before the payment received
is available in your transaction history
READ!
Any time you receive an email about changes to your PayPal account, the
safest way to confirm the email's validity is to log in to your PayPal
account where any of the activity reported in the email will be
available to view. DO NOT USE THE LINKS IN THE EMAIL RECEIVED TO VISIT
THE PAYPAL WEBSITE. Instead, enter www.paypal.com into your browser to
log in to your account.
What is a phishing email?
You may have received an email falsely claiming to be from PayPal or
another known entity. This is called "phishing" because the sender is
"fishing" for your personal data. The goal is to trick you into clicking
through to a fake or "spoofed" website, or into calling a bogus customer
service number where they can collect and steal your sensitive personal
or financial information.
We will carefully review the content reported to us to certify that the
content is legitimate. We will contact you if we need any additional
information for investigating the matter. Please take note to the
security tips provided above as they may help to answer any questions
that you may have about the email you are reporting to us.
Help! I responded to a phishing email!
If you have responded to a phishing email and provided any personal
information, or if you think someone has used your account without
permission, you should immediately change your password and security
questions.
You should also report it to PayPal immediately and we'll help protect
you as much as possible.
1. Open a new browser and type in www.paypal.com.
2. Log in to your PayPal account.
3. Click "Security and Protection" near the top of the page.
4. Click "Identify a problem."
5. Click "I think someone may be using my account without permission."
6. Click "Unauthorized Account Activity."
Thank you for your help making a difference.
Every email counts. By forwarding a suspicious-looking email to
spoof@paypal.com, you have helped keep yourself and others safe from
identity theft.
Thanks,
The PayPal Team

Google paypal scam and see the results. We did test the scam. The scammers will be asking for your personal information. SSN number, Address, credit card numbers to verify your account. It is very well done. We wound up with a guy that spoke bad English and could not pronounce Richard. It came out Reeachard.
I told him he was under arrest and he hung up... Pay pal is good. We paid with our Paypal account and got the confirmation E mail from PayPal... About 5 minutes later we got the scam E mail. Helen had the same thing a couple of weeks ago so we knew it was a scam.

Thanks Rich, we use paypal a lot, haven't had an issue YET. But anytime someone ask for info in a email or over the phone, all kinds of red flags, flares and whistles go off. Thanks again.

This was my first time experiencing paypal. Always avoided it but since the Goshen rally required it I was stuck and had to finally get an account. Thanks for the heads up. Almost 100% of the time I sell something on Craig's List that is valued over $200.00 I get contacted by some idiot scammer. I have just learned to expect it. I give them a location to meet me with the cash late at night. Never hear back from them.

Folks fall for these scam all the time. This one was well done. When I was talking to the scammer and he was asking me for my information I told him all the information was already on the website under my account and why did the need it again...His answer ...well we need to confirm that you are you. They had a answer for everything. We have been using PP for several years with never a problem but you need to be always on the alert.

Thanks for the "heads up" Rich.
A good reminder to NEVER click on a link in a unsolicited email.

The scam E mail was well done and looked like a legitimate E mail from Pay Pal.The tip off is that it asked for personal information SSN, Etc.
the scam has been going around since 2012. This is the first time we saw it.

Any email you get that asks for personal info is a scam, since the company (paypal in this instance) already has it on file. You can report paypal scams bynforwarding the email you received to spoof@paypal.com.
