Hi,

We just purchased a new 2017 305RL. We traded our Crossroads product for it. We had a lot of trouble with the Crossroads trailer, so we are hoping we have a better quality product now.

We are not new to the RV lifestyle, we are just new to Montana.

We are retirees who spend winters in the RV in Florida, take multiple short trips throughout the year, and every two years, a long trip. Last year we went to Alaska. We take our cat with us when we travel. We own a house in the country and are able to park the trailer in our driveway, which is so nice.

First, I have a general question. Our former trailer was 30 amp, this one is 50 amp. We have a 30 amp surge protector. There are some campsites we go to that only have 30 amp service, and some that have 50 amp. What do most people do - carry two surge protectors?

Also, and this one is more specific, we notice that the rear jacks (it has auto leveling) are quite low. Does this present a hazard when crossing some railroad tracks or driving through some uneven areas? I don't even want to think about all those annoying curbs they have to put in so many places, especially parking lots. Other people's experiences would be helpful here.

By the way, I am the female member of the team. Hubby does the maintenance, I do the domestic stuff, and we both drive the rig.

As for the surge protector, we just carry a 50 amp surge protector from Progressive Industries. It will work on anything from 50 amp, 30 amp and even 20 amp.

The rear jacks can be an issue, you will have to aware and careful of going over curbs.

Congratulations on your new 305RL and welcome to the forum. I installed the 50 amp Progressive Industry's in my 3160. I have not had any issues with dragging the back of our unit but I always am looking for the nicest way into and out of fuel stations etc.

Those of you who say you use a 50 amp surge protector, how do you plug that into a 30 amp outlet at the campground? Do you just use an adapter?

Yes to using an adapter, just make sure it is one of better quality. And agree with other reply time to upgrade to the 50 amp progressive unit.

I'm also new to the forum (joined today)...in response to the issue of jack height, I was able to move all my 3402RL jacks up about 3 inches to give us a full 12" road clearance, and we put down 6" wood blocks to prevent extending the jacks out too far

Welcome. I have received some good help from folks on this forum. We really enjoy our 2014 305 RL. Approx.10,000 mi. and over 150 nites with not many problems and no really bad ones. We use a detachable 50 amp Prog.Ind. EMS system with adapters for 30 amp or 15 amp. Have not had any problems with rear legs, front ones seem to be closer but I try to be very aware of humps and dips. Hope you enjoy your new toy.
