2012 F 350 Brake Controller Setting
I have a 2012 Ford F350 and curious as to the brake controller setting number that some of you are using. Towed for the first time last weekend and setting of 8 seemed about right. Feedback appreciated. I sure do like the Tow / Haul mode on my Ford.
Coming from a 7.3 this new 6.7 is a beast no comparison.
Thanks

I also use 7or8 since the system has a gradual engagement just like stepping harder on your brakes it seems to be a close setting. weight will be another consideration for set up. But if it works for you thats all that matters

There are instructions in the Ford manual about how to adjust the gain. I'd start there if I were you.
Everybodys experience with the gain seems to be different and the settings are all over the map. I also think everyones brakes seem to work differently. Some people can lock them up and others couldn't on a prayer.
I had my gain eventually up to 10 and still it seemed the truck did most of the work stopping us. When I switched to Hydraulic Discs - now I'm set at 6 and the trailer brakes like it should. I don't even know its back there when i have to stop.
Seems that some folks found that they had grease on their drums when they pulled the wheels the first time etc etc.... That's why you need to try and find the setting that works for you and feels like the trailer is stopping itself and the truck itself. If the brakes are all working correctly and in unison there should not be that much of a difference pulling and unhooked.

Set ours on 7.5 and here is how I learned how to set the controller: Go to a level road/parking lot or other little used safe site towing the Monty then travel at a low speed like say 15mph and use the brake control hand lever to apply the brakes on the trailer and do not apply truck brakes. You can set to the max and observe the stopping to verify with help from someone also observing that all the wheels are braking. Then adjust to suit yourself. We used 7.0 on our previous rig that was 2000 lbs. lighter.

I have a 2012 Ford F250 6.7 Diesel and mine is set to 6. I used the method metioned in other posts of squeezing the brake controller at 10 MPH and watching it stop the whole rig with just the 5ver brakes without locking them up. This setting has been good for us. And since you have a Ford, that setting will remain with your trailer set-up screen when you choose Montana until you change it.

To all that responded with feedback, Thanks
For my1997 Ford I set up the Prodigy controller by using just the trailer brakes to stop without brake lockup. I'll review the manual and find the right setting. Thanks

You got a lot of good feedback. I have a 2009 F-350. Controller usually set at 7.
