Ready fo a new tow vehicle

Ready to get our 3rd tow vehicle (current one is 10 years old). Going all the way this time with the full 4 doors. Narrowed it down to the Ford F350 dually and the Ram 3500 dually. What's your thoughts? Any input is welcome.

I have a Ford but I didn't marry Ford. I like my truck but if I was buying a new truck I would certainly look at all three. All three have advantages buy the best one for YOU.

I would echo that. I love my Dodge and would buy another one when the need arises, but different strokes for different folks. Try them all and see what's best for you.

We just traded our 2007, 2500 Silverado 4 door, short box, diesel for a 2012, F250 King Ranch, 4 door, short box, diesel. I liked the Silverado,and Hubby likes the F250 better. He says it's meaner, tougher and he likes the color better..... I thought the Silverado rode smoother and the F250 more like a truck. They are all getting so tall! The F250 has a ton of power! I really like the 4 doors. Puppy always gets to come along and sometimes our adult son, so the 4 doors are great because I usually get stuck in the back with the dog. So in other words, pick the one you think looks best!

Ok you ask....so....I drove GM trucks for 40 years and really had no complaints. Several years ago I tried a new F150 and loved it. When it was time to start thinking about the big truck with diesel I did a lot of research and comparing. I was convinced that the 6.7 was the way to go pulling the kind of weight most of us pull. Now have just over 22,000 miles on it and MPG has started creeping up (have gotten up to 14 pulling Monte). The F350 does ride a little rough but it goes in tomorrow for Firestone bags which should solve that issue somewhat.

Just sold our 2000 2500 Dodge Extended Cab (diesel) and bought a new 2012 2500 Crew Cab (diesel). Didn't want a 2013 Dodge diesel and have to mess with the urea tank that assists with emissions. We'll save that for the next truck.

Love our 2011 Ford F350 with 35,000 miles on it, 15,400 of that have had our Montana behind it.

Bought an F350 6.7 CC LB FX4 SRW KR last July. Very happy with it. Just finished a trip thru Colorado mountains. Pulled the passes great and the engine brake handled the down slopes great also.

I am sure you would be happy with any of the new Big Three. As mentioned the Alison is a great transmission. However the new Dodge tranny is also supposed to be even more durable. The Cummings engine has been a standard in the Dodge forever and is hard to beat for durability.

I put 265,000 miles on my '01 Dodge, now I have a 2012 350 DRW/LB and love it, the exhaust brake is superb, not happy with the fuel economy, but I think that is not great on any of them. Good luck with your decision.

The only real negative thing I can say about my 2012 Ram 3500HD DRW is the Cummings is slow - especially off the line when pulling heavy loads. It does not have the "get up and move now" power that the Duramax has. Fuel economy does not compete against the Duramax. Cant compare against the Ford as I have Duramax and Cummings in my fleet. My coach weighs in a 16,300lbs with about 3400lbs of kingpin. The Ram gets the job done, but just not as quick as I'd like some days. Happy shopping!

We have been very happy with our 2007 Dodge, we like the Cummins engine and exhaust brake and have towed over 40,000 miles with it.

Three Reasons: First, they do not break down, if they did I would not be a repeat buyer. High Milage, towing; I like having a new truck; Worked hard all my life, and the wife says I deserve a new truck any time I feel the urge.

How much does urea cost and where do you get it, I haven't seen it at the Pilot RV lane...
I bought the 2012 Ran mega cab w/ Cummins 6.7 high output. I have to be carefull on my speeding. The DW is alway watching. We were on the east bound side of I80 to Reno and were running with some 18 wheelers I look at the speedo and the wife hits my with a book. We're doing 80mph.

All the new motors have more torque, are quiter and pull great. The Ram has a Exhaust brake I can turn off on shallow hills that allows me to coast and get better mpg.

Go slow, be carefull, have fun...

Fords do not break down???? come on 1retired06 be honest your 6.0 and 6.4 NEVER broke down, you are one lucky guy, I WAS a hardcore Ford guy but those 6.0 and to a lesser extent the 6.4 had some big well documented problems the new 6.7 makes up for those bad Powerstroke years

I put 140K on my 2005 6.0 and except for a couple of computer flashs directed by Ford, never had a problem, never in the shop. In defense of the 6.0, into the second production year, Ford worked most of the earlier problems out. Had two 7.3s, one 6.0, skipped the 6.4 (whew!), and my 6.7 is the best of them all.

You can get urea (or DEF) at most any auto parts store or truck stop, Wal-Mart even carries it. It runs about $12 to $15 for two and a half gallons http://www.walmart.com/ip/BLUEDEF-Di...5-gal/16933407
