After 3 years, our original teflon disk looks fine.
The only grease every used is for the sliding lock mechanism. Not sure if I should be greasing something else?...no problems yet. We have a Hijacker-24 hitch.

Alan, the disc should last you several years. We moved a disc from a 1999 FW we bought new to a 2001 that we bought new to a 2003 that we bought new. When we bought the 2007 FW we went ahead and spent another 11 bucks for a new disc. They work very well.

I've used the disk on every rig I've owned and loved it. When we bought the Montana, the hitch the previous owners used was with it, and since it was rated for more weight than the one I had been using, I switched to it. The previous owners had used grease, but as someone else stated, some of the edges had been nicked when hooking up and those nicks cause a number of gouges in the hitch plate. I smoothed the nicks and dings down with a dremel, cleaned the grease off, and installed the disk. I may still get the occasional nick in the edge of the hitch plate, but once hooked up, I don't have to worry about gouging up the bearing surfaces as the disk creates enough separation to prevent it. I've even considered getting the larger disk (12" instead of the 10") in order to provide a little more coverage between the pin box and hitch plate surfaces. Just my experiences.

Grease seems to leap off things and onto me.Don't know if they do any good or not but it cuts down on the grease that will leap out at me and that is a good thing.

Another disk here, we are on the second one (hooking up at 2:00 a.m. resulted in the first one being a casualty). I have never greased anything on the hitch (Reese 15 or 16K - not sure). I like Rich, have the inate ability (as my mother used to say) of finding grease in a sand box!! Maybe I should grease something??

We use the disk, but still lub the pin itself.

Yup folks. The disc eliminates the need to grease the underside of the RV pin surface where it comes into contact with the hitch surface, but you only need to grease the recessed groove at the bottom of the pin where it contacts the jaws of the hitch.
On the TV's fifth wheel hitch if you use the disc then you only need to grease the jaws and wherever the jaws move against the metal inside the hitch. Using the release lever, wherever you see metal on metal contact apply grease to those areas. You do not want to grease the top surface of the fifth wheel where the disc would sit.
If you do not use a disc, then the top surface of the fifth wheel must be greased. Hopefully you can imagine that using a disc minimizes the area needing grease and this keeps things much neater.
Your choice what you prefer, but the disc saves me a lot of lithium grease and minimizes mess.

Well I got a good surprise when we pick up the 2010, its has a standard pin box and now I can use the Teflon disc. I guess the difference in the Trailair pin box vs the standard Lippert pin box was the difference. So I cleaned up the Trailer Saver air ride hitch head and want need the grease on the hitch head. GBY...
