Our high efficiency home unit works well even down into the high 20’s and high humidity. I suppose the small RV units don’t work as well.

it is electrically operated. It is built into your MAIN a/c unit and operates the same was as that unit does. Only difference is it HEATS the air instead of cooling it. Normally a heat pump is only good down to about the mid 30`s degree range or so, any colder it is better to run the furnace only.

Your heat pump is located in the MAIN a/c unit, whether it is the front or rear unit depends on model of your specific unit. Both thermostats will have it listed, but only 1 will operate the heat pump, and that will be the main a/c unit thermostat.

To visually tell the difference, you can look from outside onto roof, and the TALLER/BIGGER a/c unit will be the one with the heat pump in it. At least thats how it is on our coach.

We have a mini split HP in out sun room. It works down to the temperature is zero. It has an efficiency rating of 26. When we put in the government efficiently ratings only went to 25. They kept getting better.

Greetings, my heat pump is on kit/dining t-stat in our 2018 3560RL. I just want to use furnace only to take off the chill (setting on t-stat is furnace) but heat pump comes on too? Why? Thanks.

Im not 100% certain, but Im thinking I've read somewhere on here about the fan setting. If its on "auto" your heat pump runs with furnace, if its on "high" the heat pump wont run with furnace...or something like that scenario.

Again not 100% certain how it was worded.

We were told our 2018 3731 FL was equipped with a a heat pump.
If you have the serial#/ model # of the ac/heat pump unit you can look it up on line or call Dometic to make sure the unit really has a heat pump. If it does, I would say there is a problem with the heat pump communicating with the thermostat. Bad cable end, bad cable, problem with board on heat pump, bad thermostat. I believe the heat pump option will only show on thermostat when they are talking to each other.
Hope this give you a start,

We ran the heat pump for the first time last weekend and between that, the fireplace and the ceiling fan on, wow, I think it worked better if not a good as the actual heater running. Though it was only in the 50's at night but still, it worked pretty good. This is our first fifth wheel and never had the heat pump, so we were curious how well it worked

You may have read that but it's not true about mine. The HP only runs when thermostat is on the HP mode and furnace only runs when on furnace mode. The "LOW", "HIGH", and "AUTO" only applies to fan speed on mine. I never take mine off AUTO and everything works fine.

Hey WBF,
I figured it out. Yes, that right, place main t-stat on furnace mode and in auto and only furnace runs. Thank you!

The heat pump operates on electricity. Ditto kjmcdowell77............we usually find the electric fireplace and heat pump keep the trailer very comfortable. Our 2014 Montana did not have one but our 2020 does it is a very nice feature since it avoids consuming LPG.

A heat pump does the opposite of an air conditioner. It takes heat from the outside and transfers it to the inside. When it running as an air conditioner it takes heat from the inside and transfers it outside.
There is always heat in the air alway down to something like -400 degrees. Some heat pumps can only get heat out of the air to 30 degrees or so. Some new units can get heat out of the air down to -15 degrees or lower.
Heat pumps are used because they only move heat not make heat like a furnace so they are more efficient, they use less electricity.
