GVWR ?
Had rig weighed at the rally. All ratings and margins were fine except GVWR on truck was 450 over. What problems would this be likely to cause?

No problem unless you got into a wreck and somebody was sue happy and so long as your tires are not being overloaded compared to their weight rating. In theory your vehicle is rated for a certain amount of weight. Obviously there is a safety factor built into all components. As for braking etc in reality two trailers that weigh the same and disk brakes verse drum and you will get two different lengths of stops. What I am saying is I doubt you will break anything it just may not stop or accelerate quite as quick as if you were under its GCWR. Look at what the rate of weight transfer is from side to side when going around a corner. That is a simple example of why there is safety factors build into the components that make up our TV 's.

How would a "sue happy" person be able to prove you were 450 lbs over weight? Would never happen.

I work in the firearms industry. I make reloading equipment and other gun related products. I could de sued at any time by any one of tens of thousands of customers. My point is you can't go life worried about being sued by somebody. Enjoy your camper and forget about it and beside that you have insurance. Forget about it it's their problem.

Hi
I am with Lynwood on this one provided you are not over your Gross Combination Weight rating.
In the event of a serious accident exceeding the GCWR can result in serious legal problems unrelated to you lawsuit problem.

As said, if you aren't over what the truck can handle in pin weight or you aren't running marathon tires, no worry. If you can't help but worry, time to offload some stuff. John

go enjoy yourself, and as far as braking or acceleration 450 pounds is not going to make a pinch of difference

I wouldn't worry about it but it would irritate me to be overweight. Those of us with Trunk Campers (Lance, Arctic Fox, Host etc) are often overweight and by far more than 450lbs (850lb over on one of my scale trips). Make sure the front of the truck isn't losing too much weight (

First question, were you in the truck with wife, dogs and Louis Vuitton luggage? Was gas tamk full, tanks full. Generator and all the things you travel? That's the question, how much over is comfortable? I know when I get in the truck, with wife and two dogs, one being Mt Dog, it's almost another 600 lbs. I like being on the undersize of GVWR.

I was able to solve a rear end and GVWR weight problem for my '06 Ford F-250. Typically, the overage can be solved with any of the big three between a 3/4 ton (F250 or 2500) and a 1 ton (F320 or 3500) of the same model year by adding an overload spring to the springpack at the rear end. Mind you there will be some that will argue, this doesn't count, but I was able to solve my rear end overages buy using factory hardware and at least in California, if I tow only for personal use, this is allowed. Your state may vary.
I actually compared my F250 with the same year F-350 and found only two differences in my case. First, the overload spring and the second thing was larger rims and tires to support the new potential weight rating. Mind you, make sure you compare a similarly equipped higher rated truck of the same model year. The engine, trans, differential, and brakes MUST be equal. For example, do not compare a gasser with a diesel, or an autotrans with a standard trans, or different model year trucks. Everything MUST be identical to ensure only the springs, wheels and tires will be all you need.
My rear end gained 900 lbs of rating which solved both RAWR and GVWR. My CGVWR was unbelievably okay.
I have heard in that the event of an accident your rig can get weighed to check for compliance in the event of suspicion or a lawyer gets involved. I have heard that if you are overloaded at any point you are automatically at fault no matter what since you should not have been on the road in the first place.
That said, I have an '06 Monty and will not be able to tow most newer models with my truck even with its beefed up rear end. You have a newer truck model so maybe the mods will get you farther. Unfortunately, I recall Dodge was at the bottom of the weight ratings in 2006 so good luck to you.
