2017 Ford F350 Towing

Hello

I currently tow a 2009 Montana 3150 with a 2009 F350. I will be picking up my 2017 F350 in the next couple of days since it has been built and shipped. Like so many I have noticed the bed height of the 2017 are higher. I measured, checked, compared the trucks side by side and it looks like the 2017 are at least 1" to 2" higher than everything older. Everything on the 2017 seems bigger, compared to my 2009 the dimensions are over all length 246.2 to 250, Inside box 20.1 to 21.1, open tailgate to ground 35.1-37.3 to 38", top rail 58" to 59" or more.

After looking at everything I decided to go for it and ordered a new truck, its kind of odd but some 2017 F350 seem higher than others most were around the 58" but some 60" I guess it was what options were on it. In addition after a lot of thought I purchased a B&W Companion BRWK3300 it has the factory puck system of mounting.

Now I'm just waiting to see how it all matches up, there wasn't a lot of clearance with the 2009 truck but I figured raising the hitch to the middle height of 17 3/4 plus would probably work.

What has been the experience of other Montana owners? Does the 2017 F350 work with out modifications? I'd be really interested in what other have found.

Randy I am also interested in this information as I will be upgrading my TV in the future. What model did you order?

I ordered a 2017 Ford F350 4x4 Lariat, next year I was planning on upgrading the RV. I just don't know yet how the new truck is going to match up to my current 5th Wheel. A little concerned about how tall the truck is. I'll post some pictures when the truck comes in and I get things hooked up.

Randy, maybe this will help. Lots of info available on dimensions:

https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...eries_v1-0.pdf

I was faced with the same dilemma but then found a left over 2016 with all the goodies (except the puck system). Got a great deal on it so we jumped. The '17 has new features but we got a lot more truck for a lot less than the '17 was gonna cost us. But I sure do like the look of the '17s. What color did you order?

Thanks for the Link, that's a lot of information on the truck. It'll take me a while to go over it. I ordered the color Magnetic, can't wait for it to arrive.

thanks again.

I just spent 6 weeks with member littlespud (Gary). He had a 2001 F350 2WD and upgraded to a 2017 F350 4WD with a B&W Companion in the puck mounts. In addition to the height increase in 16 years, the change from 2WD to 4WD adds another 2" (different spacer blocks on the axles). His hitch is on the middle connection point and he has 5+" of clearance. PM or email him for more info (better yet come to the Western Region Rally and see for yourself).

Did I mention he is one happy camper due to the new truck!

I don't know if it is still an option, but I had a 2007 F350 FX4 CC LB that I had the 4" axle blocks replaced with the 2" blocks standard on a 4x2. Leveled out the truck and the trailer. Was going to do the same on the current 2012, but never got around to it. But I do run slightly nose high.

When I had my 1999 F250 it also sat too high. Ford offered a lowering kit as mentioned by Carl. They installed the shorter axle blocks AND shorter shocks at no charge. I don't know if that is still available from Ford today or not. But it is a solution.

2017 F350 Towing Setup

I took possession of a 2017 F350 4x4 Lariat on Thursday 3/9/2017, on Friday I installed the B&W Companion BWRVK3300 and hooked it up to my Montana 3150 fifth wheel. It was a great fit all the worrying over the height of the truck, the depth of the bed is over, plenty of room between the bed of the truck and the trailer.

I set the hitch in the middle for height.

Sounds good that even being higher it is still working. I really don't want to lift the 3160 to make it work.
