Verizon Data plan improvements

For those of you using Verizon for your wireless internet access, you might want to check your plan on the Verizon Wireless web site. They have virtually doubled the data availability in each of their price ranges. We are hearing that the increased data plans will only be available for a limited period of time. As an example, on the old plan 20GB was $150/mo. The new plan is 40GB for the same price. Supposedly AT&T has done something similar.

Change to the new plan and got 2.25 times the data for basically the same price. Thank you very much for the heads up!

We had 10GB on old plan. For no additional money they raised us to 15GB per month. This might work pretty good because we were bumping right up against the 10GB every month and almost going over.

Being a retired Verizon employee I didn't think Verizon was giving anything away for free or upgrading for you for free. They did reduce the cost of the 15G, 30G, and 40G plans, which used to be outrageous, but they will still cost more then what you had before. If you already have a 10G plan then to up it to say 15 isn't a lot more. Everytime you go in or call the rep is gonna tell you that the next plan is "only" $10 or $20 more. After a couple of times they have $10'ed you more up to an additional $50 a month. There is a method to their madness lol lol...I know their tricks lol lol ...So if you already have 10G then to go to 15 is a good deal, but if you are at 6G's then maybe not so good of a deal if you don't really need it, Now when you call in they are going to try and upgrade you to 30 or even 40G's when you only ask for the 15G plan, hey it's only $20 more a month. So now instead of jumping the $10 more from 10G to 15G you have jumped $30....Just keep that in mind when you call.....below is the increases....

3G---$60
4G---$70
6G---$80
8G---$90
10G--$100
15G--$110
30G--$130
40G--$150

true but we were paying 130.00 for 16G and could have nearly doubled that to 30G at no increase in cost.We use a lot of data.

We just did it ,we used to have 10G BUT to get the 15G for no extra cost you have to sign up for the "More for Everything" plan and it raised my total bill by 3 bucks a month for the Wi-Fi Jetpack and phones SOOO I am happy with that and I got more min for our phones to boot

This is interesting.

I just checked my Verizon bill and my broad band internet is costing me 21.13 a month for 6 GB. I use it a lot for business research and set on the internet for days at a time and have never exceeded the 6 GB I am paying for.

We had an 18g plan for $140 and went to 40g for $150. Before we regularly used most or all of the 18 and didn't watch video's or stream anything. Now we can do a modest amount of that stuff for essentially the same money. Works for us. If you're full timing and that's your internet access, just updating operating systems if you have 2 MacBooks,2 iPhones and two iPads can use a heck of a lot of data. Add some books to read and Facebook with the grandkids and data disappears rapidly.

I guess if you weren't on the more everything plan and were on one of the older plans then yes you probably could move up and would cost the same.....we been on the more everything for bout 3 years now....the older plans were more expensive....when we jumped to it our bill went down...

Guess you have to check the Verizon website regularly to see what they have to offer. As mentioned earlier you have to be careful when dealing with the Verizon stores. We have a full timing friend who has an old plan that gives them unlimited data. Every time they visit a store, someone tries to sell them a "better" plan that would take their unlimited data away.

Besides eating up GB's downloading video and the obvious stuff everyone thinks about, we did discover that running windows 8 with updates turned on seems to use more GB's than older operating systems. Since keeping automatic updates turned off on my laptop we have used less data each month. I just wait until I am at our son's house or someplace with free WiFi and update my system there.

We agree with the Windows 8 comment. When we got a new computer last year with Windows 8 our data usage started to skyrocket. Our normal usage had not changed. A Verizon store told us that many Windows updates will run for 8 or more hours in the background and eat significant amounts of data. We turned off the automatic updates last month. Our data usage as of this moment is almost 6GB less than the same period last month.

Another thing to watch is some video games. Some of them do online updates in the background as well.

We have two laptops, two smartphones, two tablets. We do a lot of streaming video we use Pandora radio. We do have the windows auto updates off. We use the jetpack exclusively when in Florida for the winter and on the road. We were averaging 10 to 12g last winter in Florida but would wait till we got home and on DSL to do the Garmin and other large updates. We will see how the 40G works out this winter it may be to high but we can drop back.

I am totally lost here.

I stream video from my stick house but monitor it on my broad band. I down loaded Windows Ultimate ISO fie and then the 200 or so updates for same plus all of my other stuff and only used 1.3 GB of my 6GB plan.

All of the phones are unlimited data including internet.

I must be doing something wrong.
