What you should do is YouTube doing your oil, and filter . I sure would watch it. Or was that less then 5 minutes a typo

I was thinking just about the same thing, plus to finish you have to grease it. Was that included in the 5 minutes?

I have always changed the oil in my vehicles (gas cars) myself, until I got this big diesel truck. Never worked on a diesel before. I have been taking it to our local (an hour away) Ford dealership for oil changes. I have taken it to a local place when due when on the road.
Due to time constraints (we leave Tuesday on our next road trip, gone until October) I took it to our local "good old boys" garage last Monday.
I just noticed on the receipt they put 15W-40 oil in it.
Ford recommends 5W-30 synthetic in the owners manual.
I called them and they said that's what their supplier recommends. He said no problem.

Guys, I have NO experience with diesel engines.
Should I not worry about it this time and go with it, or change it???

I've read my times on this forum people recommending Shell Rotella.

At this link, they say above 0 degrees use 10W-30 and above 20 degrees use 15W-40. They also show other weights for different temperatures, all the way down to 0W-40 for extremely cold climates. I'm thinking you're probably good until your next scheduled change. https://dieselresource.com/diesel-re...ance-schedule/

Daryl ... no worries ... I've run 5/30 in the winter and 15/40 in the summer in my 2017 for 3 years now. Both are listed in my Ford trucks manual depending on air temp and how hard you're going to use the truck. Granted new engines are built "tighter" but pulling 15 - 17K on a hot summer day ... I'll go with 15/40. As for brand ... I use the standard Motorcraft super duty formula diesel oil. As long as it meets Ford's WSS-M2C171-F1 specs you can't go wrong. I wouldn't use Wally Worlds house brand diesel oil though.

PS ... there's nothing magical about changing oil in a diesel. There's just alot of it, and it's way blacker than a gasser. The additives in diesel oil make up for the soot generated during combustion. Just get a bigger pan and always use disposable gloves.

Thanks guys.
Reminds me when the first time the DEF warning light came on. Freaked out until we learned what it was. Lol.

I have always run 15W40. That is what Ford recommends for heavy use, like towing a fiver. You will see that in your manual and 15W40 is stamped on your engine oil cap. Rotella T6 synthetic is all I have ever used.

The first time I started my truck after it sat out all night in below zero F temperatures and it immediately went to 1400 rpm high idle (apparently a computer commanded emissions system thing) the lighter weight oil that they call out now made sense I guess. As long as I wouldn’t be running into those kind of temperatures, I’d wait until next oil change to go back to your usual oil.

Shell Rotella 15W-40 T4 (Dino oil) DIY under the barn has served me and my old F-350 7.3, ZF6, DRW, Crew Cab well. She's an early 1999 2WD Lariat with just shy of 480k on her and everything works. Fresh oil, filter, and fuel filter every 10k or so, and she just keeps going, and going, and going. She'll sill turn the world around if the chain holds. I'm gonna enjoy her as long as she lasts.

Thanks all for your responses. I have forever done all my own work on my trucks. Now that we are full timing, I am leaning towards a local top-rated mechanic and I will supply the motorcraft filter and the Rotella T6 oil. This change I was luckily just returning to where we lived and could change it at my daughters place when the change warning came on.
