There all great trucks for sure, it just boils down to taste, what style you like best. Here’s the thing about tests, are you really drag racing up the mountains ? I don’t think so but it is about the endurance of our modern HD Diesel trucks. For me Dodge/Ram has been my choice since 2003 do the simplicity of the Cummins straight 6, I do all my own maintenance/ Service among other things I prefer about Dodge/Ram HD Trucks. Fortunately I have never had any of the issues that others have had. Knock On Wood lol.

These trucks keep their value very well. You may be surprised at how little that new one costs after selling the old one.

My own test has always been how well a truck pulls my trailer over Mt. Hood on the way to central Oregon and back. My 2012 RAM easily pulls my HC over the mountain at 55-60 MPH. Good enough for me. I suspect the other 2 brands would do the same. It's just nice to feel confident that the truck I already have, that's already paid for, does exactly what I need it to do, and does it comfortably and relatively quietly.

I was looking at a 21 ram loaded for 89000.. they came down to 86000. My low mileage 17 books at trade in of near 60k.. they said 52000 on trade.. I said forget it.. I will never play that behind book value again.. Peterson in Idaho gave us full trade in value on our trade..The worst part of it is Nevada has extremely high registration fees.. 1477.00 the first year on the 17...I bet it's 1800 on a new one..

Was at the Ford dealer yesterday getting my 5er Inspected and saw a Ford 250 diesel “Black Widow”edition. MSRP $97k. That’s 1000 times what I paid for my first car and 30% more than my first house! I don’t know what the BW edition entails but no spider is worth that.

There's no doubt that these new trucks are pricey to begin with, and then the upfitters start with the conversion trucks, and it gets ridiculous quickly. That particular truck has a 6" lift on it. Doesn't sound too good for pulling a 5er with!!!

I was at my Ford dealer. They had two diesel trucks a F350 DRW work truck for 59 K and a F250 King Ranch for 80 K. The King Ranch is a mid range truck with the Platinum and Limited above it. A nice Limited F150 will set you back $76,000. I checked and decided to keep my 2018 Lariat.

They tested the 250/2500s. In RAMs, the HO option is only available on the 3500s.

A few qualifiers to mention here. The Ram truck was competing with a 6 speed transmission. The Ford and Chevy had 10 speed close ratio transmissions. The Chevy had the lowest axle ratio of 3.73 (standard on the 6.6 Duramax 2500) which is an advantage over the Ford’s either available 3.31 or 3.55 (the article doesn’t specify which axle was in the test truck), and lastly, the Ford was torque limited until reaching 4th gear and the Chevy was not. I find it hard to come to a conclusion of a winner. The Ram did very well considering the 2500 has a de-rated 370 hp. Only the 3500 Ram truck is available With the high output Cummins and Aisin transmission (still a 6 speed).

Gonna test my 2006 Dodge 3500

I have a pretty good test for my 2006 Dodge diesel 3500 SA coming up. I just bought a 2010 Coachman Northridge in Ohio. 37' 15k GVWR, supposed to be 2500lb pin weight (yeah right), 4 slides. We will be bringing it home through West Virginia.

To add to this, Ram more then likely had 3:42 gears as that is standard.

In my opinion if one of the three was significantly better that the other two, there would only be one. All three exceed our needs in their abilities, it's really about, are you a Chevy, Ford or Dodge person, the deal you can get or the options you like.

I was an ALL GM guy in the 80s.. Moved to Ford in the Late 90s. Went to Dodge in 04 because of the Cummins and the NV5600 6 speed Stick.. 2007 Ram, 2017 Ram and another 2017 Ram... One thing that turned me off was a Truck where the Cab had to separated from the chassis to work on it... The Ram I can get to the waterpump...2 BOLTS... wow.. Don't have to remove the Fan either... The Ram trucks are head and shoulders above the Older Ram or Dodge Trucks... they are Nearing 100k now... I think I have bought our last truck...

I still think if they put the Cummins/Aisin powertrain in either the Ford or GM bodies it would be the ultimate combination.

I agree, that would have made it more interesting.
I also think having the same tires all around would make a better test. I really do think the RAM spun out at the end.

When I was a kid, at the summer fair they always had "tractor and truck pulls". Back then, everyone brought their tractors from the farm, and their pickups to see what was best. It was only at the very end of the day that the pro's showed up. Now, it seems all about the pro's and "money is no object" classes, just for the entertainment. I kind of miss the simpler times, as it would often lead to debates of which brand made the best pickup (or farm tractor).

Come to Estherville, Iowa in late July. The Emmet County Fair still does the classic tractor pulls with many classes including antique.
