Bedroom Slide Bed

2010 Montana 3400 RL. Twice since I’ve owned this camper, the bed in the front has pulled away from the wall on the front head corner. I’ve watched the slide going in and out and I can’t figure out how it’s happening. Anyone had this problem?

Yes, on our 2010 3665RE it happened after we put a new heavy mattress on the bed. About the fourth in an out of the slide the bed pulled off. Took the bed apart and reinstalled it with more than just three screws. While I was at it I also added two more rollers to it. After that it was good for a couple of years until we traded it.

Same rig as Dick. Same problem. Similar fix.

Same thing here as well. Used metal brackets to reinforce frame. Plus many more screws.

Put in a couple brackets and a lot more screws. Couldn’t find a stud anywhere on the back wall. So it probably wouldn’t take much for it to pull them out again. If it happens again I think I’ll add some plywood along the end cap to get some solid anchors. DQ Dick; would you happen to take any pictures of how you added the rollers?

I have dimples in my linoleum where the rollers sit when the bed is in. I'm going to add more rollers to my bed to spread the load. I was thinking about these ones

But I have not opened up the plywood under the bed to see how it would fit.

A lot of problems can be solved by bonding a 1 by 4 poplar board to the headboard wall with a low voc adhesive like liquid nails or one of the Pl products. That allows for a solid connection of the bed assembly to the wall. Better rollers that are bolted through the frame instead of using screws will keep them attached. When you remove the plywood so that you can see the bed structure, you will probably find that it was built by a blind assembly worker using less than great materials. This of course means that you get to improve what you find.
