Tire Milege

We bought our 5er used, last fall, and I am wondering if you can estimate the milege on a tire by comparing the current tread depth to the new tread depth. Jim

All you can find out by measuring tread depth of new vs old, is the percentage the tire has worn. There is no way to calculate the miles it has run down the road.

I agree with Lonnie but one other thing to think about is if the salesman claimed the trailer had only 5,000 miles and the tires are seriously worn, then either he's lying or there's something seriously wrong with the trailer.

RV tires typically don't wear out. They expire of old age. Look for cracks in the sidewall of both sides of the tires.

Thanks for the replies. Muddypaws, one of the reasons I would like to estimate milege is also for the miles on the 5er. I don't know where its been or how far. Here's a revelation: maybe I can get the previous owner's name and number from the dealer. Ah Ha! Jim

Check the manufacture date on the tire for age.

I've documented my Driveline mileage by using a steno pad and everytime that I'm towing, I mark the city, date and truck mileage, and when I disconnect the 5er, I also make a note in the notepad as to the city, date and mileage. That way, I think, there is little guess as to how many miles are actually on the tires and wheel bearings, Hope this helps.
Best wishes,
Steve
