Water Heater Maintenance

Thought I would post the maintenance work I did last weekend. Simple project, glad I did it, and the WH will very likely operate with more efficiency now.

Cleaning that element up or replacing it will certainly help. Kind of an advertisement for a water softener.

I assume the electric element was stock? Pretty good life of 12 years if so. How old was anode? When out and about, you can find some pretty rough stuff (H2O).

When I purchased my rig and pulled my anode rod the first time (rig was two years old, but new to me) the rod was the size of a coat hanger wire!

I replaced both the element and anode. Tested the black rocker switch outside to make sure it was working and reassembled. I have no idea how long it's been in the Monty since we've only had it since October, but the tank looked clean and good on the inside bottom. Water heater was only working marginally - luke warm water on electric, hot on propane. Figured I would start with the obvious. I am using the Walmart blue filters - will filtering help this kind of buildup?

Keeping good anode rods in our water heaters can save a lot of troubles down the road. I wish they had small accumulators on our rigs as I think that could help I. The long run with the plumbing system. I will have to keep an eye on the element as I don't usually take it out. You probably solved your water heater luke warm issues with that element replacement.
