Rims....110 PSI and Loose Lug Nuts

Can the stock rims handle 110 psi? I want to get rid of the Goodyear Marathon tires on my `09 3400RL since I have heard nothing but bad about them. Have you any experience with the Goodyear G-614 Unisteel? And how about loose lug nuts? Dealer did not torque my rims correctly and I had a wheel assembly come off the hub! Anyone else with loose lug nut issues?

Your rims should have the max pressure noted on the back of each rim.

On edit...no problems with lug nuts, although I check them prior to each trip.

As others have said before on the forum--with aluminum rims--Check the lug nuts on a regular basis. It is something you learn to live with. It also gives you a chance to look at your tires. I especially check mine after someone else has removed the rims and replaced them. I don't trust the impact wrench users to torque anything!

Our OEM rims on our 2008 3400 have been re-certified and I now have the Goodyear 614's,no problems so far.

I would bet your rims are rated for 110 unless you have an older unit. I have G614's on my rig with the OEM rims. They are doing well after over 10,000 miles.

Dealers or tire service personnel may not tighten the lug nuts properly, however, lug nuts are the responsibility of the operator. The same is true for any vehicle you drive or pull. Blind reliance on service providers may get you into big trouble.

Your manual tells you to check the torque after the first 50 miles. Experienced RVers check the torque before they start a trip, especially if you have been parked for awhile. Regularly checking air pressure and lug torque is just standard operating procedure.

When Dexter did our shackles they told me to retorque the lug nuts after 25 miles, 100 miles and 250 miles.
They torqued the lug nuts at 115LB.

Not telling anyone how to torque theirs.
Just telling what I was told by Dexter.

Torque specs are in the owner's manual.

The last time I had a wheel removed and replaced at a truck repair shop, the tech put the wheel back on and uncased a very expensive torque wrench, then turned to me and asked How much do you torque? I told him and watched him dial it in and commenced to torque the wheel. First time I have seen someone do that, most will say their impact wrenches are set at 120lbs. Don't believe them!!!! It's your life on the line, why trust it to someone else?????? Same with adding air to tires. Two things you really need in your tool kit is a good tire pressure gauge and an accurate torque wrench....

My 2008 3400RL mfg'd in 2007 had re-certification to 110 PSI. The certification was on the inside of the rim. The old certification was hard-stamped into the rim. The new certification was a stick-on label. I called Tredit and they stated that Keystone wanted them re-certified to 110 PSI. So I gues putting a sticker on it re-certified it (China you know!)

The TR6 wheel that Keystone got from Tredit Tire and Wheel company was recertified through factory testing, according to a face to face with Tredit Wheel co in Elkhart, IN. Keystone needed it done to support the heavier rigs in '07. They have since recertified all the TR6 wheels to the increased pressure and weight rating. They gave me stickers to place on my '06 AND a letter to that affect to give to any tire shop that was reluctant to put the increased pressure tires on. The Goodyear G614 seems to be one of the few G rated tires available for the Montanas, In fact I know of no other G rated tires in the appropriate size, In fact they are not available in the 235x80xR16 but rather the 235x85xR16. Before I leave Texas this Spring, I will have these tires put on.

Hi gang,
I had the G614 tires on my SOB without any trouble. I've gone through the original set of Marathons with irregular tire wear that Goodyear warrantied. All 4 tires wore about an inch on both out and inside edge, after about 10,000 miles. Now the replacements are doing the same thing after about 8,000 miles. Hope to see someone at the rally that can advise me as to what to do next. Probably will go with the G rated G614's next time around. I check the pressure regularly at 80lbs cold.
See you soon

My rims are only 6-lug rims therefore I cannot go to 110 psi. I torque my wheels at 120 foot pounds. After torquing and retorquing about four times the lugs seem to hold up without any further torquing. However, I still check them periodically, usually before I start on a long haul and at least once during the trip.

Don't let the dealers use impact wrenches on your chrome lug nuts! Use a socket & torque wrench only!

Why?.......because the nuts will rust out fast using a impact wrench. The impact wrench breaks the chrome finish on the lug nuts.
