landing gear motor faster and gears plastic
I have a 2006 2980 Monty purchase in July, 2005. I have used it for 3 1/2 summers and put 40,000 miles on it. So I have raised and lowered it at least 175 to 200 times. In all that time I never blew a fuse - but I have read on this site about many who have. I have had a 'chatter' when the trailer was getting a little high and thought it was the gear teeth. Finally last week it wouldn't go up high enough to put it back on the trailer. I took it in and they order a new moter assembly. I got home and got to thinking - it seems like the chattering is from chipped teeth. Also I thought if it could raise it 6 inches, the clutch shouldn't be bad. Anyway yesterday I had the motor installed. They tell me the new Montys have 2 motors now. When I raise/lower the landing gear, it moves about twice as fast as it used to. When I tested it, I raised it about 1 inch above the unhitch position and it blew the fuse. First time in 4 summers. They said this will happen everytime if you start raising the truck too. So I now have 5 extra fuses as others have advised!!!
Oh, I also ordered new gears. Somehow I thought they were plastic, but these are metal. Have they always been metal?
So has anyone else noticed the faster motors and have any comments on the motors or beveled gears???
Thanks everyone.
