Seamless, one-piece 5/8" floor decking
"Seamless, one-piece 5/8" floor decking "
This statement comes from the Montana Standards under the Exterior section. Anyone know what the material is?

It's made from oriented strand board, or OSB, is an engineered wood product formed by layering strands (flakes) of wood in specific orientations.
OSB panels have no internal gaps or voids, and are water-resistant, and has similar properties to plywood, but is uniform and cheaper. It has replaced plywood in many environments, especially the North American structural panel market. The most common uses are as sheathing in walls, floors, and roofs.

OK, OSB it is. Puzzling to me that OSB isn't stated? Can I then infer that this sentence means that there is a "seamless" strip of OSB 8 feet wide and up to 36 feet long? Or, is it in 4x8 sheets like we find in Home Depot? If so, why "seamless"?

Virgil, I saw on tv how it was made. Basically, it's a conveyor system, logs going in ,being stripped, chipped, dried, chips lined up, adhesive sprayed on, rolled, compressed, heated, trimed, cut to length.I imagine any width that you would order, cut to length. With the amount the rv industry uses,I'm sure they make special runs for them to their specs. I saw a Keystone factory rep at a dealer and he said that they use the OSB board because they can get it in long sheets where plywood is only available in 4'x8' sheets.
I have done maintenance work in an OSB plant and I believe this product has come a long way in the last few years and now is probably just as good as plywood or better if you can get it in longer sheets.

Yes, that is the big advantage of OSB it really does coame as one sheet 8' x 32' (or whatever), if you take the factory tour, you will see it.

Sure hope Keystone sprays a sealer on the OSB before they start building and layering it with floor coverings. My expereance has been if it gets wet, then it will bubble up and become soft over time. However, if it is sealed with a good quality polymer, it will last as good as plywood.JMHO

I posted this before.. We saw a Challenger with the OSB flooring being repaired at our local dealer. The flooring had spent 5 days under muddy water in a Ohio flood. I was astounded that they had dried it out and were restoring the camper. The repair guys were not a all surprised that the OSB stood up. I asked them about using " Marine grade" Plywwod and the reply was...."is this a boat"

DynaSpan is a performance engineered oriented strand board specifically designed and manufactured for the Recreational Vehicle (RV) Industry. DynaSpan panels are comprised of many long, thin wood fiber strands selectively formed into multi-layered mats and bonded together with exterior resins at high temperatures. The strands are precisely calibrated and proportionally oriented into dimensionally stable panels that have superior racking strength and impact load resistance. DynaSpan panels are engineered and manufactured to meet or exceed all RV floor application performance criteria requirements.
Or you can read all about it here: http://www.affiliatedresources.net/dynaspan.shtml

Wow, thanks Lester. Now the $64 question. Is DynaSpan oriented strand board any better than
"Seamless, one-piece 5/8" floor decking"?
I'm just trying to determine if, in this one area, the Standards for Big Sky are any better than the Standards for the Montana.
