Top Hinged Cupboards

My 3750 has no fewer than 8 cupboards which are hinged at the top and which have no means of staying up when open except for the "other" hand.
I've looked for a suitable solution to the problem far and wide without much success until today! I wandered into a Camping World selling the Montana and Fuzion. The new Montana's still have no support for these type of doors when open. The Fuzion however had the spring loaded piston type stays that work perfectly. Even more surprising was that the Camping World actually had the stays in stock. It's an RV Designer product part # H279. 2 to a package (only one required per door)and only $7.29. I've installed them and they are the solution! Life is good huh Ozz.

Thanks for the info. Those doors can really be a pain. Just ordered a pair of the struts from CW for $7.29 with free shipping.

Thanks for the tip Ron. Our previous SOB had several cabinets that opened that way and they all had the little piston to keep them open. The Monty has two cabinets beside the entertainment center that need them. I'll be getting a set now that I know where to get them.

8.1al, arn't those intended for door openings like a toy box, trunk style door, to keep the lid from dropping? I don't know if they will hold up those doors that raise straight up.Just a thought

I had the same issue with top hinge doors in my living quarters horse trailer. I bought the same spring loaded door openers at Camping World about two years ago. They work perfectly. They are in constant use on eight doors in the trailer.

No, that's another that Camping World had. I believe it's a model 277. The one I chose was a model 279 because that's what I saw in the new Fuzion. The 277 may work just as well. I'll post a pic of the installation if I can figure out how to do it!

Does anybody that has these on their cabinets have any pictures? I got mine this week, but don't have anything to compare them to when installing them. They did not come with directions although they do say "Easy do-it-yourself install" on the package. I have never installed these before and don't want to do the first one by trial and error. Which bracket goes on the cabinet frame and which on the door? Do you open the door all the way and install the strut and if you do this does the strut compress all the way when the door gets closed? Maybe I am trying to make this too complicated.....any help, advice or pictures would be welcomed.

Thanks,
Jack

I'm with you Jack - the lack of instructions opens the door to incorrect installation. The Camping World link http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/product/plastic-spring-loaded-cabinet-door-support/8129
(not exactly the same bracket but close enough) shows the fat end going up towards the cabinet door. I suspect you want to have the rod extended a bit in the open position and then it recedes into the fat portion as the door closes.

Why don't you take pictures of your install (and post them here) so when I do mine I won't screw it up???

Here's a link to a picture of the installation. Make sure that the rounded end of the upper bracket is facing away from the cupboard frame as shown.
