TV turns off/back on after propane water turns on

If we are watching tv, lately when our hot water propane kicks on, the tv quickly kicks turns off and then back on in an instant. This occurs every time the propane kicks on. Any ideas on what to look for? Thanks, D

Are you on satellite or are you watching on the antenna with the booster on?

The electronic ignitor for the propane heater generates a spark which causes interference in the TV.

The shield of the coax cable going to your TV is intended to keep this type of interference down. Maybe the shield connection on one of your coax connectors is not making a good connection. Make sure they are tight also. Also, the spark gap for your igniter may have gotten wider with time. Check that. You want it to be as small a gap as possible and still ignite the burner. Also, if the electronic ignition tries multiple times to light the burner, (tick... tick... tick) instead of just once, that would increase the duration of the interference. Maybe your burner or igniter needs to be checked.

Gotcha, Bama. But why the interference now? We've had the Monty for 5 yrs and just started happening the last several weeks. Should I check for a short etc from the ignitor? I don't think it's so good for the tv.

See above - I edited the first post.

It won't hurt the TV, but I know that has to be aggravating.

My guess is that it is just a bad connection on the coax and just now starting to be an issue due to the connector slowly working loose over years of vibration from road travel. Crimp on connectors are not that great, but they are real cheap. Twist on also not that great. Best is compression connectors. Yes, you have to buy a tool, but they aren't costly. See home depot, lowes, etc for tool and connectors. John

Problem fixed, Thanks! When I opened up the cabinet door and tightened up each coax, from the receiver, tv, router and then all of their connections, I had no less than 4 that were loose, and 1 coax was completely unscrewed and barely hanging on. Yep, over the years of travel, and washer spinning vibration.........but all is now well. I am going to check the spark gap of the ignitor as well to cover everything. Much appreciative, D
