Front Cap Caulking Problem

Here is my newest problem on my 4 month old Montana 291RLT... I was having it washed in the campground a couple of days ago... They noticed where the front cap connects to the 5th wheel, the caulking is separated in a few places with the longest one being about a foot long... If I caulk it myself, will it void the warranty? I'm sure it was probably there when I took delivery in Reno... I am now in Myrtle Beach and we've had some decent rain days coming across... I can't find any moisture inside anywhere and don't want any... My wife would probably kick me out... So I'd rather just try to fix it myself... If I do, is there any particular kind of caulking to use? Thanks ...

About any good silicone caulk will work for you ... others will chime in on their favorites. Although your fiver is new, caulking and sealing leaks in the long run falls under general maintenance to be performed by or at the direction of the owner. I know of a few instances where insurance claims on water damage was bogged down due to the insurance company trying to push the owners didn't perform this task. That being said and getting the drift you don't seem to be wanting to drag it to a dealer ... I'd have a dealer look at it pretty soon for documentation during the warranty period. It may be more than an issue of separated caulking.

I believe that Dicor sealant is used at the factory. Every time a dealer has had to seal the roof (satellite installation, etc.) the Dicor is what they have used. I would not see how it would void the warranty, but it may be worth a call to Keystone for verification. The other alternative would be to use a strip of Eternabond for the repair. I would definitely take some before and after photos just so you have documentation if a problem arises in the future.

All the sealant used on the roof is Dicor self leveling. This is very good sealant sticks and seals well to everything and stays flexible.

I would call the service center and report the problem so that it is on record. Take some pictures as they will most likely ask for them. IMO caulking it yourself with the dicor sealant is not a problem.

Is this on the roof or somewhere else (sides, bottom, etc.). If it's on the roof, Dicor self-leveling, but that stuff never really gets firm and would make a mess anywhere else. And if it's on the roof, there's probably something else going on than just the caulk separating.

On my last 3402 they missed a spot on the bottom of the front cap and I just caulked it myself and good to go ,I did not want to take it to the dealer just for that I got better things to do ,I have fixed a few minor problems myself instead of going too the dealer

Dicor self leveling is great for membrane roofs. Silicon caulk is not recommended by my dealer.
