Shower drain leak

Moving things around in the basement yesterday and felt wet things. Moved them and found the carpet wet. Noticed water drops on shower drain trap. Looked in shower pan and no obvious sign of cracks in pan. So I assume it is in the drain connections. Appears to be basic home type plumbing.

Anyone removed the shower drain piping and replaced/resealed it? Looks reasonably easy other than part being up thru narrow opening thru floor.

Just glad I noticed it before I really saturated my basement floor and not known it. Got a bucket under it until we get home.

On our 08 2955 I had to remove the shower drain and reseal it to the shower pan. That was the fix. I don't remember if I used plumbers puddy or white silicone. It is probably something simple like that for the fix. Access was from the bay. Joe

I can see that there is plumbers putty around the drain. And it also appears to be somewhat hardened. So I am hoping that is all it is.

That usually fixes it. Just like stick homes, that putty gets hard and cracks and has to be replaced. Probably more often when your home is a rolling earthquake.

Just had the same problem. First the elbow connection was loose, I could see it was leaking from there. There are gaskets inside the connection. I decided to just redo the wholething. Redid the plumbers putty at the drain, replaced gaskets and put back together. Was a little tricky getting the drain retainer back on, as the hole in the floor does not quite line up with the drain pipe. I trimmed the little tabs on the retainer and it helped getting back on.

We did easily. Our floor plan provided painless access to all plumbing and the drain itself.

OK, other than a small opening to get my hand thru to reach the nut on the drain it shouldn't be too much problem. Be home in 5 days and start on it.

My shower drain leaked a couple of years ago, needed new putty around it. Easy fix as long as you don't fat hands like mine.

Replaced my leaky plastic OEM drain with a Stainless steel residential drain from BIG Box Home store (drain plumbing is all the same usually). Only challenge was it took two applications of Plumbers Putty to make leak free (was too frugal with the putty the first time).
