Hot water tank singing

We have a 2017 3731FL and we keep the hot water tank on both gas and electric. When the gas kicks in to recover, we get a high pitched squeal while it is running. Once the tank has heated up and the gas shuts off, the squeal is gone. Does anybody else notice this on your tank? Anybody think it a problem with the gas regulator? The HW tank is located just back from the front basement area on the driver's side. Thanks for any input, love this forum!

It could be either of the regulators. You need to get outside to see which cylinder the gas is coming from. If this only happens when coming from the side with the red regulator, change it out. If it comes when running from either side, replace the main regulator. They aren’t all that expensive. We had one making the noise, but after a while it went away and never did it again. I don’t believe it will hurt anything making the noise.

We had the opposite issue ... slight whining noise when electric heater element kicked on. I put about 3 gal of vinegar and about the same of water in our HW tank to at least cover the electric element. I let it sit overnight, drained and flushed the next day. Lotsa hard water deposits came out and no more whining.

We’ve had the same problem with our 2015 MHc 305RL & our 2019 3811MS. Was the high pressure (red) regulator on both of them. Replaced with a higher quality one & the noise went away. We usually only turn the gas water heater on when showering, so it wasn’t a huge deal until we turned the furnace on for those cool nights. It’s right under the bedroom, so it was annoying When trying to sleep.
