Quality Control

Having purchase our 3rd Montana a 2019 unit 3701LK in Sept 2018 but not living in it until November we are very disappointed with the quality of this unit. We have over 20 issues that are being addressed and not small items either. I think that KEYSTONE needs to clean house on their builders and/or quality control departments. Some of our items to name a few are, water in the bulk head that has caused the insulation to be soaked and dripping water by the 5th wheel unit, dining area slide where the floor wasn't even attached to the rear wall leaving a gap when daylight and cold air could enter the unit, fireplace that won't thrown any hot air, stove top that doesn't work, table that is leaning approx. 3 inches inward, rips in the theater seating from the seating not being strapped in transit, the list goes on and on. All items are being covered but...should we have to go through this aggravation plus we will have to give up out "home" for God knows how long to have all of these repairs done. We are full time so who pays for a hotel for us during these repairs ? No more Keystone rv's for us.

I have owned 6 5th wheel trailers and the biggest POS was the only and last Montana I will ever own. It was a 2015 3790RD which I traded for a leftover 2016 SOB in August of 2017. This 2016 has been a great trailer to own as the only warranty issue was the two brackets holding the roller shade in place above the dinette broke. Dealer replaced the two brackets with three brackets (covered by warranty) and all has been good since.

I've been helping my son with his SOB supposedly top of the line 5er. Even the warrenty work on his unit is terrible quality. Most of what I have done is repairing what has been "repaired previously". I come from a manufacturing background in both purchasing and QC and would have fired any tech or inspector who would have let this **** out the door. Keystone is not the only manufacturer letting their quality go to ****.

I think you will find similar complaints about many other brands of RV’s as well. These themes appear pretty consistent in the industry as a whole. Every manufacturer has ramped up production in the good times to make their profits cutting corners when needed to meet production quotas. They have pushed the inventory out to dealerships and been paid. Those defects discovered during the warranty period will be fixed at a compensatory rate that is to the manufacturers advantage. Those discovered after the warranty period oh well. All the more reason for a thorough PDI and not signing anything until repaired properly.

GAinaMontana ~ my husband is a manager of Quality Control for a very large World Wide Construction Corp. and this just drives us (mostly him) crazy. As you said, they wouldn't have a job if they allow this kind of work leaving the factory. The dealer is being helpful but...that being said, some of the repairs are in question as we move forward. Love the unit just not all these problems.

I was soooooooo lucky as the only problem we had was the refer and that was replaced befor we left the dealership. I would be scared to death to but another rig no matter who makes it.

Strange. I've read horror story after horror story on so many 5r threads. We got our 2018.5 3791RD from Holiday World Willis 18 months ago. One thing found during the PDI was a propane leak in the switch over valve. They changed it right then. We have had no other issues except when a driving rain during travel gets water under the furnace burner intake blower, the igniter will fail to work several times. One time I drained water out of the burner assembly to get it to work. That's it two issues. Well, I found some loose screws on the wheel skirting and fixed that also. The 5r has been just great - my first one to buy. Just too many bad ones are getting shipped out the door. Sad. The only thing that can change the industry is for people to stop buying them....

NO! It's the luck of the draw. Our 2010 had some serious issues and had to go back to the factory. Our 2017 had just a couple of issues and the only one that were keystone's problem was the same thing they did with the 2010.

Have a 2003 3295RK. Only problem to date was leak from AC inside unit. Discovered an attachment bolt missing. I live in western Washington, never had need of AC till camped in eastern Washington couple years ago.

The only problem we have had with ours is the black tank valve leaking 2 different times and was fixed by the dealer. I just installed the valtera valves even though nothing was leaking so as to have smoother cables. I can not imagine buying another rv as this one has been pretty good and I've installed many, many improvements. All rv manufactures have bad apples but some more than others. Hope you can get everything fixed promptly.

We had a 2006 Montana 3400 it was no better built than this 2013 3402 in fact we have had many of the very same problems. We have also put over 130,000 miles on the Montanans since 2006.We are now living in this 13 3402 for 6 months during the winter as we have with both our Montana's since 2006. In spite of problems they have been good RV's and have been our magic carpet for our great adventure.

I think the older units are built better. Montana and all of the manufacturers probably have the problem of attracting people who take pride in their work. I think a lot of times you just can’t get people who care. Quality control is very expensive so you get them build and send them out the door and let the buyer find the problems then fix whatever you haft to.

Our 04 Montana was much better built than our 16. They earned a reputation of being good units at that time. They have since skimped their way out of that title. I challenged those cowards on QC with no response. They are making their money so why should they care? We are still working out the bugs and are keeping this unit instead of upgrading. Unfortunate but just the way it is.
