My daughter, and all the other teachers at her school, have school-provided laptops with MiFi and they seem very happy with the setup. I tried to use MiFi last summer with my computer but didn't have much luck--was told the problems were because I was running Vista (which I DO NOT like) with MiFi. Whether or not that's true, I don't know.

Gary,
We've used the Verizon MiFi for just over a year. We have been very pleased with it. It is only a 3G model but seems very fast to me. We may upgrade to the 4G but for now we're happy. We accomplished one thing when we obtained this device. We wanted to be able to have both Mary Kay and I on at the same time. And the device allows up to 5 devices connected at the same time. It is a very stable device. We have only had to reset it a couple of times. And the range is very acceptable. We can be anywhere within a hundred feet of the MiFi device and receive and transmit a signal.
I was very fearful that the device would not work for us but have been very pleased with its operation. We actually had better signal in several places compared to our old aircard. We are using a Mac platform to run the device. It works for us and would do it again in a heartbeat. Good luck. Dennis and Mary Kay

If you have a smart phone (i-phone, android, BlackBerry, etc) you can tether using any one of numerous apps. My personal favorite is PdaNet ( www.junefabrics.com). But you can find others in your app store.

We have the Verizon 4G MiFi for the past two months. Works ok in a stationary setting, but we tried using it on the road and it kept losing the signal. So far, OK.

I had the MIFI from Virgin in BC Canada and it continually stopped and the only solution was to remove battery and restart it. I bought this a year ago and in that location at that time it was very disappointing. I no longer have it.

I have the AT&T MiFi. I use it with the Win 7 Laptop, MAC Mini, and today I used it with a "Jailbreak" iPhone (Old version my brother gave me without a SIM card). I used it sitting in the laundra-mat and now sitting on the tabel in the RV. It has been on battery power now for 4+ hours.
I am 100% satisfied with the functionality and the AT&T coverage.

I have the Verizon MiFi, and so far I've been happy with it. I found a vendor at a swap meet and wound up getting the unit for free, with a small service charge for the airtime. My eventual goal, though, is to get a smartphone (iphone) that double as a WiFi hotspot. Not so many gadgets to carry around.
BTW, I'm running Vista on my PC, don't like the speed, but it works.

I have had the Verizon Mifi 2200 (3G) for a couple of years. In the 5th Wheel I have it connected to a Cradlepoint Router. The router is connected to a printer. My wife I often have two computers (One Mac and One Microsoft), two IPads and my IPhone all connected at the same time. We can print from anywhere in the trailer.
We use it for business all the time and it has worked great. It is a secure network. I wished it was faster, but have had access almost everywhere we have stayed.
I can't imagine not having it at this point.

I just tried one of the new 4G MIFI boxes. It was much faster than my 3G MIFI but after about 2 hours of non use it cuts its self off. So you are always going to where the box is to cut it back on. Every morning you cut it on take 2 hours off go cut it back back on. It was just not acceptable to me so I took it back. I'm now back to my old MIFI 3G.

Hi - We use the Virgin Mobile MiFi (from Walmart) We have only had it less than a year. It has worked great for us while traveling from Georgia up to PA via TN, KY, OH then over to PA. However, when we were in very small town PA we could not get it to connect reliably. When this happens we typically drive in to a local library, or McD's to get WiFi access. We like this MiFi because there is no contract required so while we were in PA for 4 months we did not pay to activate it. But when we left to head back down south we paid for a month and used it along the way and once we got home. I am on it now. So far it has been compatible with XP on my Asus Eee Netbook, XP on our Gateway laptop and I recently got a Vizio Tablet the MiFi works for internet connection for it also. We also know of a friend who has this type of MiFi and he used it in Quartzsite, AZ (in the middle of the desert). Good luck.

I'm going to try my Cradlepoint router and my 4g modem plugged into it. I will use it in the truck while in motion. Bought an adapter to get power from the cigarette lighter. Then after we set up camp used it as we do while at home. I am very happy with this setup. I run all our mac's with no problems.

Virgin MIFI purchased at Wal Mart here. Virgin uses Sprint for service and they are not as widespread as Verizon seems to be. We like the idea of no contracts and can discontinue the service when not needed and then activate it again when needed.
