Moving recliners in the 3400RL?
I know many of you have switched the sofa and recliner positions. Did you also move the "tie downs"? Or have you found it's not necessary?

we thought about it but didn't due to the fact that the heat vent would end up under the sofa. Where we live the heat runs a lot. Dan

Maybe that can be your summer arrangement. Some folk like to change around at least once a year. Don't know about the tie downs.

We didn't move the tie downs. I've mentioned before, we have traveled thousands of miles (this is our 3rd 5er) and we have never tied down chairs or tables and never has anything moved. The slides come in so tight on the 3400 I don't see where the chairs could go. We really like this arrangement. A deflector on the heat vent takes care of that problem. We seem to have more room this way and I like the pretty couch as the focal point when you walk in.

I have not moved my chairs and sofa yet, but will agree with Ed and Sue. I do not tie down my kitchen table or chairs, come to think of it I have not tied down or laid down my high back computer desk chair and they are all standing right where I left them. This 3400RL tows so smoothly that I accidently left my sunglasses on the island counter when bringing the coach home from the lake for winter and they were still there when I opened the slides at home. I dont think it would hurt not having your recliners tied down when you switch them with the sofa.

The only thing I have found in traveling is that the leg rest on the recliners sometimes comes out. I used to leave them in the same position but just push them back to the wall when ready to bring the slides in but caught the slide once. Now I turn the recliners sidesways so if the legs come out they don't interfere with the slides. In the summer I to am going to make the switch.

Just be aware.....IF the chairs wiggle forward, with all 4 slides in you can not check them before moving the slides out. They will catch the facia on the side slides and rip it off. It happened the very first time we opened the slides after getting it home from the dealers.

That's what the legs did on ours, so I started turning them sideways.

Moving the recliner with the sofa as a summer time arrangement is a great idea. I guess I am slow, but we never thought about the switch. Thanks for the great idea.

We exchanged the sofa and the chairs the weekend we winterized. I think we will like the arrangement. Plus, you don't have the issue with the recliner popping out and catching the slide (happens to everyone at least once, doesn't it?) Might get an air deflector for the register under the sofa if we find it to be too cool. We saw a number of people at the rally who had switched in other models.

If anyone has pictures of the change on the sofa and chairs and would not mind posting I would really like to see them. I have been thinking of doing this but being single makes it a little hard to move them myself. How about being able to crank the rear window open with the sofa being there? Can you still reach the crank, or do you just use the two on the sides that slide north/south? Thanks again!

We must have different windows cause I don't have a crank. But then I have the double paned windows. What do you have?

We have a shelf behind our sofa and we can open the window with no problem. The shelf folds down and we lay it on the floor when we move. You can leave the sofa a few inches away from the wall and push it back when you travel. My wife does all the furniture moving without a problem.

Thanks for the picture. Looks like I will be moving some things around when the coach comes out of storage for winter. Sue, I have the standard deep tint windows on mine. I do wish I would have thought more about the double pane to help keep out some of that summer heat. Oh well there is always the next coach.

We have not changed the arrangement of the recliners and sofa, but we did remove the tie downs for the recliners. It makes moving them around when setting up easier. When we travel, we place them back to back and with an afghan over the top, use the strap to draw them together. It does not have to be tight, just enough to keep them from turning and messing up the slide action.
travel safe
