Goodyear G614

Interesting thread on RV Net , two owners of a 2010 Big Sky, both have had tires blow, the interesting part is they are saying there rims will not accept the G614. They are saying that the G614 requires a heavy duty 7" x 16" rim, that there rims are only rated for 80 PSI. I know there are several members here that have went to the G614, and have reported that there rims are rated for 110 PSI, some have said they checked with the wheel manufacturer, others have said the rim was marked 110 PSI. I own a 2008 3400RL, and under the impression that my rims are rated for 110 PSI, have not checked them yet. I too am planing on the G614 tires in the near future. It looks like Keystone has went to a less rated wheel on the new Montana, and Big sky. Anyone have any facts on the new fifth wheels that they are putting on a rim that is only rated to 80 PSI. Again I was under the impression that the Montana fifth wheels had a higher rated rim on them since about 2007.

I have an 09 Big Sky. After my blowout I switched to G614s. I was told by Keystone that my existing wheels would only support up to 80PSI, so I had to buy new rims as well. This with only 2000 miles on the rig. G614s have been great ever since.

Interesting...my 2008 3400 Montana rims are marked for tires up to 110PSI. There are BigSky folks that may come forward and know of one that has Goodyear G614's.

Where on your rims is the 110 psi marking??? My 2008 3400RL has aluminum rims, which look like all the other rims on the Montana fifth wheels in 2008 , and the only marking's I can see on mine is the weight rating which is 3500 lbs,and that does not tell me they will handle 110 PSI..

My 2008 Big Sky (manufactured in August 2007)has rims rated for 110 psi. The rating is stamped on the inside of the rim. I have had G614's on my rig since early 2008. About 15,000 miles later, they are still performing well.

When Keystone had the manufacture re-certified the rims they put a white sticker on the back side of the rims that said 110 PSI. The manufacture stated any rim stamped on the back with TR6 would handle 110 PSI.

We have an '08 Big Sky running G614's on our Tredit rims which are marked for 110 psi. We've only had them a short time, but so far, so good. By the way, the steel spare rim is also marked for 110 psi.

Mudchief is correct. My 2008 3400RL has white stickers on inside of the rim stating 110 PSI rated. It must be some kind of ink and paper cause they're still readable. You should have the same on yours. I had to crawl underneath to view.

No white stickers, but they do have the TR6 stamp on them as Mudchief has said, so I guess they will handle 110 psi.

Looks like something has changed in 2009 as far as rating, one post on RV Net said Keystone told him that his rims were only good for 80 psi. His was a 2010 big Sky

Thanks for the info, I will upgrade to G614's

Does anyone know the pressure rating of the standard steel rims. Mine are rated for 3750 lbs.

Well...I just went through this with Keystone and was informed my rims were only rated for 80 PSI. I questioned this as my 05 3400 had 110 PSI stamped on the inside of the wheel. I was informed by keystone their tires and rims, from their supplier, come already mounted. Ssometime they use 80PSI rims and sometimes they use 110 PSI rated rims. The "E" tires Keystone puts on the rigs only require 80 PSI rims. I forget exactly the numbers but I think the 3750# are 110 PSI. I beehive my rims had 3640# stamped as the rating. In my situation, I ended up replacing the rims to handle the G614's.

Rather than go through the hassle of what rims will take what pressure, I opted to put an LT Bridgestone on my rig. Same size as the G614 (235/85R16) but they take a max of 80 psi...and will carry the load. Just MHO, but I see no reason to put out the big bucks for the G614s...I'll need to replace these tires due to age long before they wear out.

Tires are everything on my Monty, no shortcuts what so ever here. I had poor OEM tires on my 05, went right to to the G614, they are designed for heavy trailer towing. Purchased new steel 110lb PSI rated rims used metal air valves on install. They are wonderful, I have 4 years on them now, will probably change them in 2 years at the most. I always keep them covered when stopped for longer that a couple of days. Well worth the money and piece of mind.

Bill, If you were towing a "HEAVY" 3400 you would do well to think twice about this statement as I did. I like the extra safety margin that the 614's provide. Each rig is different and we all do what we must......

If I was a full timer like you, I probably would put on the G614s. Even though I do tow 'heavy,' I am within all weight limits and the Bridgestones are within all weight limits. I figure if the Bridgestone Duravis 500s are good enough for Tire Man Lonnie...they'll sure work for me.

Hey Hoover, I'm in the same situation. Our 3400 was weighed last Fall rally and all within tolerances except pin weight. We have the Duravis 500's and are a really good tire thus far. They are wearing well, with about 7-8000 miles so far. Lonnie really helped us on various brands and types too!

Thought the G614s are "light truck" tires??? The very little I have read about tires for trailers, ST tires should be used on trailers. As I understand, these tires (ST) have upgraded sidewall construction over the LT tires. Has this changed with the G614s?

I thought the same as you not long ago. However, after reading responses here and talking to my local tire people, you can use LT tires on trailers provided the load capacity and range is enough for your trailer.
You can not put ST tires on trucks though.

Although the 614's are called LT's they are actually a trailer tire. Check out the Goodyear website. I would not put these tires on a truck. I'm not sure why they are labeled LT's. http://www.goodyear.com/rv/products/g614rst.html will tell the tale.......
