Tacoma tire replacement

While checking things I noticed some sidewall cracking on my tires. I have an '04 2955 with about 9000 miles on Tacoma tires.

On another recent thread concerning tires, Dave Sprink mentioned Bridgestone Duravis tires. I called around to Bridgestone/Firestone and was refered to a comercial tire dealer (GCA). They are Brigestone/Firestone dealers and there recomendation was for Firestone Transforce HT. (closest Duravis are located in Allentown, PA) Same size and load range as OEM tires. Any thoughts pro or con on these. They are 1/2 the cost of Micheline XPS Ribs.

I have Firestone Transforce on the tow vehicle. On the RV is Michelein XPS RIBS. The Michelein XPS seems to wear better. I'm satisfied with both brands.

If the tires came new on the rig and is an 04 the tires are overdue for replacement. the tire guide should be able to give date of manufacture from tire serial # are are probaly a year older then rig. Our other one was a 99 aand Spring of 04 we blew one out of Quartzsite, not fun, bought four new.

I believe Lonnie B, The tire store owner, recommends the Duravis. The HT tires are highway tread and MAY not give the stopping traction you might want. I would not use an HT tire on my trailer. (FWIW) Sounds like he is trying to sell "what he has". Just my opinion!!!!

I'm in the market for tires and the local Firestone guy recommended the Transforce HTs also. They are STs and the same size as the OEMs...he quoted $129 each.

The Firestone Transforce H/T is a very good tire and would work well on your trailer as long as it meets the weight requirements of the trailer. The Michelin XPS Rib and the Bridgestone Duravis are, IMHO a much better choice but they are also much more expensive. I have sold and installed the Transforce H/T on trailers in the past and I will continue to do so when a customer wants a good tire at a more affordable price.

When I was discussing the Duravis with my dealer, he had a Firestone Transforce HT on the floor. I looked at it and I just thought the tread was a little more suited for a tv rather than a trailer (JMHO). I am still leaning toward the Duravis.

dsprik, the Bridgestone Duravis is the tire I have on my Montana and the tire I most recommend. IMHO it is a great choice.

Thanks, Lonnie! I really like the looks of the tread and the shoulder on it.

I want to thank all who responded to my query on replacing my tires, especially LonnieB for sharing his expertise. This is what makes this forum one of the best on the net!!

I decided on the Firestones for two reasons:

1: Lonnies post that I would be well served by them if rated the same as OEMs. Load range E, 3042lb rating, 80 PSI max- same as OEMS

2: Price $123.23 ea

Next on my list is repacking the wheel bearings and installing wet bolts, then pulling my retirement papers. RGV here we come!!

Lonnie...which Duravis are you talking about, I just looked in the internet and it seems there are three or four models of the "Duravis."

TLightning I have the R500 on my trailer and have installed them on many others including a few Montanas. The R250 is also excellent.
