2019 RAM 3500 trailer brake question

I have a new to me 3150RL that weighs about 12K. I've set the RAM trailer brakes to "Electric-Heavy" per the manual for trailers that weighs over 10K. When I approach an intersection to stop, at very slow speed i.e. 5 MPH or less, the trailer brakes always lock up and pull the truck to a stop. I've set the gain down to as low as 4 and it still happens. Today, I reset the Ram trailer brake to "Electric-light" and the problems seems to have resolved. With "electric-light setting I now I set the gain up to 8-9 and the brakes do not LOCK UP at the intersection. Has anyone experienced this with trailer brake set to "Electric-Heavy"....is this something to worry about or just go with "electric-light" and don't worry about it? this is our first 5'er and I would like to use it little this year before I consider an upgrade to disc brakes. we are only weekend warriors right now.

We've always had Disk brakes so we use the electric/hydraulic and it's always worked fine. If I were you I'd just go with what works and be happy.

I would do an inspection of the brakes to make sure all is well and properly adjusted first. If the light setting is good slow speed and highway speed then fine. Mine runs on heavy on 8-9 setting and works well.

On my Dodge 3500 and 5500 I always turn the brake system to electric light. These trailer are around 16,000 lbs and you don't need to really be in the heavy modes of braking systems. When I hook up to my flatbed trailers I then go to the heavy mode because we are now I am carrying almost 24,000 lbs. Almost 40,000 lbs total weight. Also I have 8 wheels on 2 axle's so I need that extra brake boost. Great thread by the way....

Thanks. your comments are appreciated. gives me a little peace of mind to know the "heavy" mode may not be necessary with this trailer. joe.
