Goodyear G614s
Looking at replacing the tires on our 3585SA Monty tires (see my previous thread "Are These China Bombs?").
Seems from what I've read on different places, reviews, etc., that the Goodyear G614 are popular and decent.
The current size of the Marathons we have is 235/80R16.
The G14s are LT235/85R16.
Will I need new rims/wheels?
If I keep the same rims/wheels, will my odometer readings be a bit off and/or braking capacity be diminished?
I've got a local tire place looking for me. Thanks!

I traded up to G614s almost 4 years ago, 5 months after buying our rig. The rims I had were only rated to 85PSI, so I also had to buy new rims, capable of 110PSI. Been very happy, with a lot of peace of mind. As to effects on odometer? No effect...the odometer measures distance based on the truck wheels, not the trailer. Equally, no effect on the brakes. The rims are exactly the same size as the originals, they are just made with stronger materials and welds. The dif in tire size is probably not enough to make them not fit. You will be fine.

So are my rims going to say on there somewhere if they are rated at 85PSI or capable of 110PSI? Note that I have not had time to look. We were in Hurricane Sandy's path, just got power/water yesterday, so I'm doing laundry and putting our office back together.
We are full-timers and the Monty came through just fine and dandy with her slides tucked in.

Should be stamped on the back of the rim.

The "pretty" rims, and the white/steel rim (spare tire) on our 2010 are all stamped with the 3750 rating...now if our bank account was similarly stamped....

Not to further complicate the subject but some of us have been experiencing some bad edge wear with the G614's There are some recent threads on the subject.
I'm seeing some real bad wear on mine. My rig has been in the shop for over a month trying to get some warranty repairs (that's a thread in itself) but in my case I'm not sure that it isn't a suspension/axle problem and not a tire problem.
The trouble is when one person reports a certain problem (like edge wear on the 614's) a lot of people chime in with similiar problems... which of course is a good thing because perhaps we can find some commonality and trouble shoot the issue. Unfortunately however a lot of folks haven't chimed in that they were not having problems so it gets hard to figure out if this is a common problem or isolated to just some of us "lucky" ones.
You folks with the 614's.... are you getting good even wear on your edges?
I mention all this Yellow Rose just in case you hadn't seen any of the problems. I love the load carrying capacity but if I can't solve the edge wear issue they are going to be expensive but worthless.
I've actually been contemplating going to a 17.5 wheel because when you get into that size there are many more options for load carrying tires. Some examples are the GY g114's Sumitomo, and Michelin XTA Energy If you do find out that you need to get new wheels, you might want to check into going the 17.5 route.

I am on my second set of G14's. Great Tire. But you need a rim to support 110 psi. I had my axles aligned with the first set of tires, all wear is even, no complaints.

X2 on the G614's, no problems. On another thread Ozz was speculating that X factor might be what's causing the edge wear. We need to find out if those experiencing the problem all have X factor or eliminate that and keep looking for the cause.

I am seeing some edge wear on the G614s but it's not excessive. One thing that could cause edge wear is wheel wobble, caused by bent rims or unbalanced wheels. Ozz, are your wheels true and balanced?

Yes sir! I bought new wheels and the new G614's direct from Tredit's warehouse in lenexa Kansas, had them balanced as well.

If you are headed out here, I'll make you a deal on these self-shredding Goodyears I have, only about 150 miles on them. My next tire will not be a Goodyear, promise you that.
