TPMS systems, TST 507 vs 510

For those of you that have the 507, do you really need new batteries every 10-12 months as per their website? How much do those batteries cost? To replace them on my tow vehicle and trailer both every year really adds up over a 10 year period.
Is there any downside to the 510 system? I've determined I don't need the flow through design. My G614 tires just don't get air added to them often enough that it would be any hassle.
Right now, based on battery replacement costs, I'm leaning towards the 510 which will probably only need the $20 replacement sensors done once in my towing lifetime. But, if there's a good reason to go with the 507 instead, I would.

I have the user replaceable batteries (flow through) sensors. I have never taken them off since installing them almost 2 years ago. Have never needed to replace batteries yet. And I agree, G614's really don't need the air adjusted once you get them set where you want them. Of course I don't store my Montana in sub zero temperatures either.

I've had both systems. I had several sensors die over 3 years and had to exchange with the factory for $20 ea. I've had the non flow through replaceable system for 3 years now and replaced 2 batteries(out of 8) I bought a ten pack of batteries on Ebay for less than $5 and keep them in the truck. About a 5 min job to replace.

I have the 507 (non-flow through) with user replaceable batteries, and after having some batteries expire faster than others, I have opted to replace the batteries as part of the spring recommissioning just to be on the safe side. The are not that expensive and I have eight sensors. One way to preserve battery life is to take them off of the stems when the rig is not in use (I take them off for the winter).

I don't have TPMS on camper but my TV has factory TPMS that are coming up on seven years old and still going strong. I'm getting ready to replace tires and will also replace the TPMS sensors as I can't believe they will last much longer. Looks like after market TPMS should last longer.

I have the 507 with the flow thru sensors on my Dually and now on my Monty with brand new G614's. You can get the batteries (CR1632)for the sensors on eBay for under 4.00 for a pack of 20 including shipping. I like the flow thru because they don't have to be removed to air up and I can replace the batteries. I don't have to by a new sensor or have the tire broken down when the battery goes dead or I have a problem with the sensor.

A word of caution or advice from experience....Do not put the sensors on rubber valve stems not even the rubber high pressure stems.. Have your valve stems replaced with metal bolt on stems. About several months after I first installed the sensors on my dually I got a flat because of valve stem failure. The valve stem failed right at the point where it comes thru the rim. The following statement is from the manufactures(Truck Systems Technologies) website FAQ's:

Do I need special valve stems?
No, you do not need special valve stems, but you do need commonly available metal valve stems.

I have the 507 non flow thru sensors. They are 2 years old, have never been removed and are still working. I plan on replacing the batteries this spring.

My owners manual indicate the batteries last 2 years.

My Duravis R250 tires have never needed a air adjustment on almost 2 years.

We full time and my batteries are 2 years old and I'll replace them this summer. Bought the batteries on Amazon for very little money. We are close to max weight and change altitudes and temps frequently so I do add and subtract pressure from the 614's and like the 507's.

Thanks everyone! It certainly does appear that the batteries in the 507s are lasting a lot longer than the web-site stated "10-12 months". That makes it look a lot better when looking at a 10-year life cost. That and the fact that one can find much less expensive battery prices.

We still use the 510 system we purchased 5 years ago and have had only 1 sensor fail. Because it was well out of warranty, it was just $20.00 and the return of the sensor for a new one. They regularly cost $50.00 and it doesn't matter which model you get I don't see a downside to the 510 as I don't have to replace batteries yearly and I really like the shape of the monitor. It is flatbottomed but tilts back just enough to see it where we keep it. I think it is a personal decision on which one you decide on. I agree with going to Amazon to purchase batteries if you go that route. Hugs, Di
