Yes, we spent four days there in 2003. Nice campground and close to many of the attractions. We went on a bus tour of the area attractions and they picked us up at the campground. It cost $54 per person, but was worth it. He did all the driving and narrated interesting facts along the way. It included a breakfast, entry fees to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse and a stop along the way for lunch at a lodge where former US presidents use to stay and another stop at a man made lake. It ended with a dinner and a show. Just to watch the bus driver go through the tunnels and travel the pigtail highway in the bus was worth the price.

Thanks for the info! I just noticed that in your signature you have a New Horizon? When did you trade your Montana in, I must have missed that.

Wildbill,
We stayed at Rafter J Bar CG. It is one of the nicest most centrally located CGs in the area. It is a huge CG. Has several different areas you can choose from. We choose the open meadow type area. Wide sites with easy access. Would definitely stay there again. Only drawback is that it is a bit pricey. In spite of that we'd still stay there again. Saw some of the other CGs and wondered how they even got rigs into the sites. They were right on top of each other.

Have a great trip. HamRad

We went fulltime in December 2003 and sold it at the factory to a man from California.

Hamrad -

We spent several days this summer at the Rafter Bar J. It was great. We were in a small group of about five campers at the south entrance. The only issue we ran into was a Caddyshack incident at the pool, only it wasn't a Baby Ruth bar. They shut the pool down for the day. I would highly recommend the Rafter Bar J to anyone. We found out about it when we stopped at the Chamberlain rest area to ask about campgrounds and one of the people in line had stayed at a number of different campgrounds in the area. They do have some strict rules, like no campfires after 11:00. But it was very family oriented. Plus they have horse rides and the Michelsen trail right there.
