My gauge says I get 16-17 mpg when towing too.....................going downhill...lol lol lol I was thinking when you were computing you carried one too many 1's....... It appears that weight has very little affect on MPG's as does the rears. It don't matter if you got 3.42's or 4.10's, your MPG is roughly about the same within a mile per gallon or so. When running empty is where the rears show the biggest difference. So most likely running at hwy speeds there is not much of a difference, maybe 200 rpm. But the rears come in to play when there are hills involved or how fast you want to get up to hwy speeds. If you travel mostly mountains or hills you want 4.10's, if on the plains you want 3.42's. Or just get the in between 3.73's. If you use your truck as a regular daily driver you may want 3.42's, but if you use it for mostly towing it would be easier on the truck to have higer gears, especially if you're towing heavy. Although I don't consider a Montana as heavy for these trucks.

OK Friends, here is an update. There is right now as I type this, a 2014 GMC Denali 3500 setting in my drive way! McCormick Motors let me bring it home yesterday to keep over night. Wife and I took it for dinner last night and it seems to have put a smile on both our faces. I can not say enough as to how much these trucks have improved over the last 9 years! Quiet, rides and handles nice. And, I can definitely feel that it has the 90 some horsepower more than the old Chevy.

It is the Sierra White with the dark grey leather and wood grain accents. Loaded with all the goodies......most of which I may hardly use. The only thing I wish it had that it doesn't is, GPS. But, that is no big deal as I have Garmin to back me up! So, I will find out more today as to how bad they really want to sell this truck to me. They have already given me 2K more than originally quoted for the old Chevy. This dealer knows us well enough that this is something Gail and I will walk away from if they don't have a sharp pencil because, we don't need to buy a new truck at this moment!

Well gang, note my new signature. ........what can I say? They wanted to sell me the new truck!! I'm cleaning out my old truck and they are putting the step bars and mud guards on and cleaning 'er up. I anticipate delivery will be Thursday or Friday. With all the rebates and incentives, got 11k off sticker. Then, trade off that. What a deal!!

Congratulations! I believe you'll be happy with your new truck.
That's a good looking rig.

Excellent, glad you got a nice truck. Not that your old one wasn't nice, but you were probably in the same position as us. We had a decent older truck that ran good...but we found this Laramie and it soooo much nicer to travel in lol lol lol. Enjoy your new rig....

Thank you, Jay and Dave! I am very confident that we will enjoy this new GMC as much or, more so than the old Silverado and that, it will last us for the next 8 or 9 years! Whoever the next owner of the Silverado is, they will be getting a good one with 131400 miles. Makes me a little sad. It has been the best truck I have ever owned and had the longest! They will be getting it with the plastic bed and tail gate liner and the 5th wheel hitch rails still in tact.

Just in case, Camping World is running a special right now, You can get brand new bed rails for something like $165 but they will install them for $39........No not the regular $420 but for $39...... Makes me mad cause I just spent $450 to put my old rails in my new truck lol lol lol... . Wish they had been running this deal back in Dec. lol lol oh it's just my luck.

Now you will really have a reason to come to the rally in Tennessee! Show off the new truck and with all the Big Sky's that will be in attendance, you can really start pondering on something to put behind that shiny new load puller!!

Bongo, don't think for one minute that isn't mulling around in the back of my mind!! DW says since we bought the truck, the Montana will have to wait another year. But, I have the feelin' that if I take her to a couple shows and she finds the floor plan "that is it", our shopping will be done!!

Oh the temptations we face and of course our MOC friends are more than willing to stir the pot! I'll be looking for that "new Montana" post!

Congrats on your new truck! Look forward to hearing your reviews of it once you get some towing miles on it. Enjoy!
