Air compressor
I have a Craftsman 3 gallon 1 HP electric air compressor that I run with my Honda 2000 generator. With the ECO throttle switch off, the compressor will built up to 125# pressure and shut off. My problem is when the compresssor kicks back on, the surge load is to much for the generator. Is there a simple solution to this problem, besides getting a bigger generator? The only thing I know to do, is release all the air in the compressor and start over. Will doing that 2 or 3 times overheat the compressor. Can a capacitor be added in line?

Is it possible that the equalizing valve in the compressor isn't functioning and the compressor still has head pressure when it tries to start again? Try plugging it into a house outlet and see if it has a hard time starting back up.

We have the same setup, and (had)the same problem as you stated.I put in a 1/4" valve in the line coming from the pump, so it don't have head pressure, then close it to build up tank pressure. Will send pic's later.

Thanks cruzin 2 for your suggestion, but the compressor has no problem when on land power. Thanks for the picture NC Fishers, I think you hit the nail on the head. I will try that. The picture makes it real simple to understand. What a group we have.

Lue its the head pressure on the compressure causing the problem, the same will be if it was your Air conditioner, the amp surge is greater than the Honda can put out, the Idea with the 1/4" tubing is what looks like a great idea to solve the problem for the head pressure and allow it to start the compressure again.
