RV Refrigerator Drain tube
First time in taking the bottom panel off on the outside for my RV frig. I noticed right away that the wood was wet and found the condensation drain tube that come from the inside dripping water. I was going to take it and move it so it goes through one of the small vents to drip outside but reading I found that the bottom white plug should always have a little water to keep warm air from going up the tube into the frig. So, I took a red solo cup and stuck it inside and routed the tube into it to catch the water. What if anything are others doing or finding around this issue?

My drain tube was always sticking out the bottom vent from the time it was new. And somewhere along the way, the end cap disappeared. As a temporary fix, I cut a small piece off a plastic mesh dish cleaning pad and stuck it inside the tube to keep bugs out and restrict air flow. Years later when I sold it the mesh was still there.

Typically the tube drips into a small rectangular pan located in proximity to the heat exchanger stack, that accelerates the evaporation process. The collection pan is screwed to the back wall of the fridge. Residential refrigerators employ something similar to this.

Every RV I've had since the mid 90's has had the drain tube terminate thru the plastic vent cover. It'll take some pretty strong wind to actually blow hot air up that tube enough to matter. I've not had a drain pan on any of my gas absorbtion fridges. Perhaps newer units do now. I do think the little screen or similar is important to keep bugs out.

Earlier Montanas RV refers had a drain tube that exited through the vent cover. Newer models (since ~ 2011) use a tube into a drain pan next to the heat exchange stack

Mine being an older model as Carl just described I just keep a drip loop in the hose so there is always water in it. Keeps the heat out and I've yet to see in sect swim up it into the refrigerator.

Mine was tucked in behind the burner tube.
FIRE HAZARD!!
I moved it to the drip pan. You can see the burn marks on the tube.
Also while you are here, look for the paper fridge wiring diagram. Mine was tucked in behind the chimney.
Again
FIRE HAZARD!!!
Keystone, Norcold pay attention to this during assembly!!!

I had 3 travel travel trailers with gas absorption refrigerators. All 3 of them had the tube extended out through the outside vent cover and dripped on the ground (or side of the trailer and then to the ground.) Never, ever had any issues with any of my refrigerators. My current Montana has a Residential refrigerator.
